Autocross Awards Poll

Postby martinreinhardt on Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:06 pm

What happened to the nice Autocross Award Medals for 2nd and 3rd place?

I don't want to offend anyone as I think the cones were a great idea, but I preferred the previously used 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals or perhaps new styles. I know the autocross chairs have a very busy job. But I can volunteer Jennifer with the awards. :D

With all the money we spend on our cars, I think event awards are important as well as nice year end championship awards.

What do you guys think? Here is a poll

Awards are cool. I liked the medals. I like the cones. While I haven't figured out what to do with the stickers, I know many people like them (and they are super cheap, I assume!).

I like the OC mini-trophy, I've only got one but it stands out.

I would say that it is important to HAVE awards. Last year and early this year 'we don't have any medals' routine was not so great. So I guess I would like an option on the survey 'Any reward is great, just don't run out!'. ;)

I like the stickers, but I'm a bit jaded on trophies having thrown out all my old ones from bike racing when I sold my mom's house a couple of years ago (numerous big boxes full of corroding old junk)
The stickers are fun to arrange on a side window like the "kills" on a WWII fighter plane. But I'm easy- ribbons, trophies, or ice cream cones, I don't care, I just want to drive.
As others have said, the important thing is.....don't run out.......

Well, I don’t have numerous racing trophies because I‘ve been racing for 3 years. I would love to have more momentos to look at especially when I’m old and remembering younger and crazier days.

A new style of trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd – and still have the cone stickers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd sounds like a great idea to me. And then people who don’t want more trophies don’t have to accept them.

I would volunteer to find new styles for 2009, keep them stocked and even help, or find help, for the AX Chairs to hand ‘em out each event.

It is the AX Chairs decision if they want a change and would like help. If the AX Chairs say it’s OK, anybody else want to help?

I agree with most people, running out has been a big disappointment for a lot of the drivers. So if you want it changed, then do something about it? I will help Jennifer if we can get a budget and an okay from the powers that be. Who are the "powers that be" for next year?

+1 on the OC awards. I was pleasantly surprised when I was lucky enough to win one, a brushed aluminum trophy. Even the plexi engraved type would be great. I agree with Martin there should be a change. :beerchug:

I really like trophies/medals and stickers. I got my first sticker this weekend and promptly put it on my helmet with pride. OC's trophies are really cool and SD's medals are also great. But my big thrill was finally getting a cone sticker... so don't stop those!

With POC timetrials, your first win gets you a nice wooden trophy board, subsequent wins get a small plaque that attaches to the main trophy. This works for me as you get one nice big show off trophy and then just little additional reminders that don't cost much or clutter up the house. After doing this for many years, my pile of ribbons, cones, t-shirts, medals, etc is ridiculous, and I often don't even take them anymore, but the first few really did have a lot of meaning.

Wow, I really like that idea! I am also collecting quite a bit, but I LIKE collecting it. This is a great blend, a trophy with 'notches', if you will.

Awards cost money. If you want the really nice awards like POC gives out (I like them also) it will cost more than we are spending now. Which would mean raising the price of an AX by (according to my third grade math skills) about $8.00. I for one do not want to pay more for my AX so that anyone, myself included, can get a better trophy. There are A LOT of classes and many that only have one to a couple of competitors. I would think that trophies should be awarded similar to what we do in sailing. If your class has three (there would not be a class for less than two) than first place is awarded. Five, first and second awarded. Eight, first, second and third awarded. 15+ than it would be first to fifth. I'm not saying that those are the numbers, but something like that could really help. I really don't understand why we give out a trophy for first place when there is only one car in that class. Seems kind of a hollow victory to me. If we did something like that it would mean less trophies get handed out thus saving money. Which means that you could get better trophies and they might mean more to those that covet them.
