Hey folks, here's the 2005 Time Trial schedule. Spread the word to your friends. Let's also try to get a few more of the better AX'ers to join us.

Jan. 22-23- Streets Clockwise w/bowl
March 18-20 - Fontana Festival of Speed (TT not DE)
June 4-5 - Buttonwillow
July 30-31 - Big Willow
Oct. 1-2 - Fall Festival and Rodeo Spring Mountain, NV

You mean the advance track school we proposed recently? If yes, that might be a good time.

Kary, isn't it too far down the road? Let's meet over some beer and pizza and start brainstorming sooner, ok?

Kary and Tim-

Just to brainstorm on the idea of an "advanced track school" a little bit, what if in conjunction with (or even instead of) a track day with hands-on practice, we produced an instructional video of the techniques being covered? This would capture the process and archive it for future use, even by those who were unable to attend at the time. The video could be transferred to a DVD and perhaps even be sold by the club to recoup costs. Whaddya think?

I know someone like Kenyon Blower could produce a kick-a$$ video of the event, we could script segments introducing the skills (I can already see Tim doing his best Tommy Kendall impersonation standing outside a 944Spec) and then have in-car video of the actual techniques, maybe even with split-screen showing the hand/footwork as well as the track, etc.

Kenyon is a really busy guy with his Speed Channel work, and well-paid for his efforts, no doubt, so maybe that wouldn't work out (I certainly can't "volunteer him" for the job), but I have a friend who has worked in the movie industry for years and has now started messing with video productions. If it had any commercial potential at all, he might do it on spec for a piece of any profit, and he has all the equipment we would need. He has actually asked me if I wanted to do some kind of race video with him recently.

Ummm... Not to throw a wrench into to your school discussion, but the "race" Jack was talking about it NOT the same as the Advanced Performance Driving school you guys are talking about.

Tom, as stated in my post above, I really like the idea of an instructional video. I would like to sink some time and effort into a money-making video project, and I've started shooting some in car video. I shot some decent footage at a recent test day at Streets. I need to return with the bullet camera and some bright light in the foot well.

Ok, I shot myself in the foot.......I mean, I shot my feet doing the heel and toe thing. Got it from 3 different angles and it's really clear. I then went over to Circuit City and bought a video capture card and a fire wire. So, I'm now sitting in front of the computer learning how to work Windows Moviemaker. I'm a regular cinematographer now.
Let's see how it comes out................

I can see it now - Tim's "footage" will be the next lead article in Foot Fetishists magazine.

With a bit of planning exercises, we could use the Sat./Sunday lunch hours (and maybe one run group series) at January Streets to do some fun stuff at the entry or exit of the skid pad and perhaps elsewhere.

1. Threshold braking side by side with another car.
2. Drifting, rotating, etc.

Streets is set up perfectly for that. For fun (or by mistake), many of us were hanging it out pretty good on the skid pad.

Heel and toe does not require any special instructional session, IMO. Anyone who thinks they need more practice with that should simply dedicate a run session to it. Don't think about doing fastest times, just work on that skill for a session or two. In fact, focusing on just one aspect of driving during a session is a good thing to do. Do a session where all you do is 1) look ahead, 2) brake late, 3) brake earlier and accelerate earlier, 4) trail brake, 5) shuffle steer or keep your hands in one place 6) late apex, early apex or 7) whatever. You get the idea.
