Boxster 2.7L Engine needed

My engine is kaput.

I am looking for a (lightly) used Boxster 2.7L engine - i.e., from a wrecked Boxster, perhaps. I am not prepared to pay $11,000 for a new engine (installed) and am hoping someone has a less costly alternative.

Kim,
Talk to Carl Vanders. I think he is converting his Boxster to a 3.2L, so his old engine maybe available.

Very sorry to hear that, Kim. Was it anything related to your problem at Fontana?

There is also a front end damage boxster on craigslist in north county that someone is parting out.

Thanks to everyone for some good pointers, and yes - Carl's engine exchange is an option.
I am also considering Plan B - moving over to the dark side. I am willing to consider a 993/996 coupe - I need a daily driver (with Air Conditioning) that I can bring to the track and play with. Anyone know of some good candidates out there?

you can also check ebay... there seems to be a couple engines on there every now and then. Also a company called flat-6 innovations does a lot of work with the 986/996 engines. What happened with your engine? Intermediate shaft failure? RMS problem? Cylinder wall crack?

Not entirely sure. Without tearing apart the engine (which would cost more $$) it "looks" and sounds like either an intermediate shaft or spun bearings or both. There are a lot of metal fragments draining out of the sump.
It looks like the swap with Carl is the best option - he says that they would tear down the engine and see what actually happened, so I will find out then.

Perhaps I am missing something. I saw a pic of a smashed boxster. I asked what happened to the car not why he is selling the car.
