05/09 AX The day the stars aligned for TTOD..almost

Postby gulf911 on Mon May 11, 2009 12:01 pm

Well, after I realized I was running in a parking lot and not at Monaco in an F1 car I was in a much better frame of mind...

The day started like any other ax day, friendly people, early morning smack talk chatter...but wait! Eric and Mark are driving a different car?
Partial star alignment ensues...
But the smurf car is here? mmm... I then find out Jim Binford ( who got TTOD in this lot just ahead of me and Martin in his red car a bit ago, currently down for repairs) is driving the Smurf car! Crap! Stars mis-align.. :banghead:
Lots of talk that I need to be worried about the new Kinninger built black car...yea..yea yea..
The day goes very well, many practice laps (that was awsome, thanks to all!) and got down to low 1:14's..Erik in the black car can't break 1:15's, so on his last practice I just walked over and happen to mention , in passing, just to be helpful, that he needs low 1:14's and he promptly goes out and spins just before the lights. ..stars re-align!
Timing begins....1:14.37...1:14.01...1:13.50... :D Stars moving in a ready to align position...
Eric's timed were still in the 1:15's I beleive, but had car trouble on his last run. After I came in Jim asks what I did and I just nicked him by 1 sec or so...stars aligning nicely..
Gunter came over and I just got him with his 1:14.4x....but why is he getting back in his car?? A RERUN??
knowing he beat me last time in this lot I wanted to give him some encouragement, so I just walked over and promptly gave him the andrews whammy... He laid down a 1:14.25 or so and nicked Jim... :banghead: but not good enough...stars looking good!
The Ferrari does deserve honorable mention for it's 1:10??? but its an X car right? Maybe it doesn't count for PCA TTOD??
Last car to worry about is the Cantilever wearing Kinninger built car and excellent driver Austin Smith...he had told me he hadn't broken high 1:15's so I was still nervous but had hopes...
Out to corner work! Excitement is building as I watch the last group get timed....And then over the radio..."This is a non-timed event"...

I realize it was just was of those things and the timing crew did all they could to fix it so thank you for trying!... :beerchug:
But of all days, did it have to fail that day!!....

Hey Dan,
I didn't run the AX that day, but stopped by after to chit chat and learned about the timing not working. Bad break, huh? I could have swore I saw black helicopters around the Q in the afternoon.... :roflmao: :beerchug:

Hey Peter,
Yeah, they were looking for the timing crew.. I also realize you and several others not showing up was another star in alignment to give me a bit of a chance in my puny 3.2... :beerchug:

Truth be told, I was paid by the Kinninger crew to "fix" the timing lights. I'm almost positive "everything will be working" next time around. See you at the June 15th DE at Fontana :beerchug:

Oh, Dan. There will be other days.

If it's any consolation, I was actually ahead of several 944S/944Spec cars on that track (shouldn't have given Jackie a target :banghead: ) .... only to be dupe'd out of timed-runs all together. :( However, a less-than-great day at the track is better than staying home and fixing things around the house any day. 8)

FWIW, you drove your practice runs like your @$$ was on fire. Looks like you'll be the one to catch on the "short-track series."

A great job to all those who made a great day of driving at the Q. Now, let's start planning for Fontana, the DE, and some serious smack-talk of things to come.

Who's in?

Dan, your rendition of the day was a fun read. You should give us more of that, in the future.

Sorry about the Timing system shutting down your TToD effort. :(

Keep the faith. Never give up. Next time, right?

Thanks Don, no worries! :beerchug:
I was trash talking all morning and I , for once in my life , almost backed it up!... :burnout:

I forgot to mention, Erik asked , "want me to drive your car again Dan??".... little rat bastiage... I said , " I would prefer to not be depressed during my timed runs"...

See you all next time....and...wait for it.......you are all goin down!!...... :beerchug:
