Heck yeah, I'm in!
20 minute sessions appeal more to me, they're more like a real rrrraa...rrrrrraa...rrrrraaa...uhhh,, I better not say. :D
Enough time for brain drift to set in, thus enhancing the "education" part of the event, fostering increased mental preparation for more advanced events.
Besides, it's enough hassle to strap in, etc, we might as well make the most of our time at "tire temperature equilibrium".
We'd have 40 minute sessions if it were up to me (it isn't).

I think it would be a lot of fun to try a new track, and having it SD is a big plus! Also comparing times with the real vintage cars would be cool.

I'd be even more interested in eight 25-minute sessions for $150.

But seriously, it's really cool that you guys are constantly working these opportunities for us. A big THUMBS UP!

imho 15 minutes not worth a heat cycle.
20 would be fun.
Is this for any year Porsche?
Can we get a kickback from the vendors for clearing out the stands.

We are very concerned about getting enough participants at the $265 rate. We would like to do something very different, but don't want to risk losing a bunch of money. We HAVE to invite BMW, Mini, Lotus clubs and the Vintage racers to keep everybody happy. Perhaps a combo of 15 minute run groups and 20 minute run groups would be a solution.

Here is the math (bailout math - not applicable)

$25,000 track
600 insurance
1,275 Motorsport reg

$26,875 Total

$195 price per driver

138 drivers to break even

$265 price per driver

101 drivers to break even

_______________________

15 Minute sessions (4 per hour)

36 sessions (9 hours - 8 until 5...no lunch break)

6 run groups

6 sessions each

23 drivers per group

______________________________

20 Minute sessions (3 per hour)

27 sessions (9 hours - 8 until 5...no lunch break)

5 run groups

5 sessions each (the leftover 2 session could be used at the end)

28 drivers per group @$195

20 drivers per group @$265

Here is another option I just thought up.

20 Minute sessions (3 per hour)

27 sessions (9 hours - 8 until 5...no lunch break)

6 run groups

4 sessions each (the leftover 3 sessions could be combined groups at the end)

23 drivers per group @$195

17 drivers per group @$265

This will make it a great weekend event for the Region. Running on Thursday, then our Hospitality Tent on Saturday and Sunday for the Vintage Races! Like Jad said...checking times.

I got to tell you guys...this course is a LOT of fun!!!

Either 15 or 20 is OK with me. I'm in.

Just a note: at the Vintage Events held there, we run 28 to 33 cars per group.

John

Looking long term, it would seem that if SDR could put on a great event (safe, well run) we would be viewed more favorably by the base for holding autocrosses there. So let's make this a GO!! (as long as beer is served at the conclusion)

This has the potential to very big for the club in the long term -- exciting event, great exposure, and building the foundations for future relations with North Island. I know that Martin and Jim Binford have been working hard on getting this started and they deserve a big thank you.

ps I'd prefer 20 minute sessions. The 15 minute session, when you deduct time for the warm-up/cool-down laps, becomes pretty short.

Martin,

I like the option you thought up.

6 run groups, 23 each, 20 minutes. $195 would attract more participation to a weekday event.

Although I will come whatever the final schedule is.

As far as getting local BMW's and Minis to come, they are having their annual HPDE at Buttonwillow the weekend before this possible Thurs DE. So we might not get too many of these guys a few days later. There are some SCCA, POC, and NASA racers in San Diego that might want to participate if Porsches and BMWs don't make this a sell out.

Sign me up. I have always thought this would be the best DE / autocross site in the country if we could swing it. I'm in and would support it anyway possible.
