(think of the old shouting radio commercials for drag races at your local speedway)

Sunday!..... at El Toro 'Speedway' ......It's the first David & Goliath challenge of the new season!
Steve Equina and the Orange County drivers take on the Porsche Club of San Diego.
Will David beat Goliath again?
Be there!

Who can make it to represent San Diego this Sunday?

I'm planning on going, Bill. My '68 911 is back together and it was pretty competitive in the FP class on the BRI the couple times I ran it before I took it apart for paint. As long as I remembered to tighten all the bolts and nothing falls off, and the loose nut behind the wheel doesn't implode, I should be able to represent.

That only happens if your BRI is too low and you are from SDR... :banghead:

From an email I just received from OCR:
"Due to the volume of interest at our AX events, we limit the total number of drivers...If the event is sold out, please try again at a later date as people withdraw all of the time. If you have tried many times without success and it is within 5 days of the event, drop an e-mail to Christine: autoxreg@sbcglobal.net"

Today is the 5-day cutoff, so there may be some cancellations and you will be able to register online. If not, email Christine and tell her that you want to come up from SDR for the D/G challenge. Even though they limit the number of drivers, I don't think they want to win because they excluded the competition.

C'ya,

How did the results go? How many SDR folks did we have this time?

Thanks,
Dan

SDR turnout was very weak--I think maybe 5 total entrants out of 117? On the BRI, Carl Vanderschuit was 2nd, co-driving a really quick AI 914, "T9 Tawfik" was 7th, and Jerry Griffin was 10th. All the rest of the top-ten were OCR drivers. I totally sucked and came in 29th running my '68 911 for the first time in 2 years. I am blaming it on old age, rustiness from not autocrossing much lately, and lousy 5-year-old tires. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

El Toro is a great venue, except for the flatness and lack of shade. It is really huge and allows for a nice course layout, very wide open and flowing with no obstacles to work around, but no elevation or camber changes either. OCR puts on a good event, and they have built their program up incredibly over the last few years, mostly due to the efforts of Steve Eguina, David Palmquist and Christian Van Fleet, I think. They are far more open to X-class cars (almost 20% were non-Porsche entries, including Miatas, Corvettes, Mini-Coopers, Ferraris, Hondas, etc.) and they also allow non-PCA entries of some national-level SCCA autocrossers to raise the level of competition. The popularity of their program has forced them to limit the total number of entries to preserve the lap count (we got in 11 on Sunday), though, so if you are going up for an event, register EARLY.

it was a fun event and a tricky course judging the by the number of dnf's I saw while corner working the timed runs.
Tom - do they post the BRI numbers anywhere? I just remember them reading off the top 10 at the end of the day.

It was quite a fun course and some of teh sections were quite technical. It was a very hot day.
Not enough SDR entrants to make a difference overall but nonetheless a fun event.

Walking around teh pits, theer are still lots of misclassed cars :(

It was a fun day up at El Toro. Had the pleasure of driving my first 914 . I spun about 5 times. Slightest bit of braking or trail braking under turning and the car would quickly go for a couple of 360's. Car had a minor carb issue, my best was on 3 cylinders (thats my excuse). Rematch this weekend. Evan, the owner is only 18 and can really drive. He also built the car himself! I think he took TTOD.

Shot some video of Tom Tweed's sweet ride. Hand held canon HD 35mm DSLR with a 100-400 zoom so its not the smoothest. Just got the camera. I will shoot some more vid's this Sat.

To get to the BRI results, go to registration link, prepare results/event, bri.. The BRI door was open for SD, as 3 or 4 of their best where not there.
