TURN LEFT! TURN LEFT!

I got a chance to drive a NASCAR at Texas Motor Speedway last week, and gotta say that was a hoot! While there was no speedometer, I was bouncing off the rev limiter and the instructor estimates our speed at that point was 160 mph. Completely different feel of car to our rides, but very visceral: LOUD, raw, powerful.

While I would rather have taken my own car around that track, it sure was fun to do! They have it worked out to a science how to give basic instructions and guidance to give you the opportunity to semi-safely drive around the track at high speeds. I found it amusing, even during the drive, how all my performance driving experience couldn't prevent me from having a death-lock on the steering wheel. 10 laps and it was over, and my arms were aching and my hands were shaking for an hour after!

If you ever get a chance to do this, take it. =) I got it for free, part of a vendor sales pitch event, but I'd probably be willing to pay the $400 for the experience (that's what the price is for the general public).
