The DE Team - Thanks to Instructors/ Volunteers

Our contract was to give rides to the Navy Brass on Thursday and do the sailors on Sat/Sun. Due to some information glitch (surprising isn't it :roflmao: ) the sailors were expecting rides and some "officials" were getting embarrassed  . Our instructors stepped up and gave out over 100 sailors the ride of a lifetime. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
The Base Commander stopped by with his wife who acted as diplomat for the day. Her father brought a Porsche Turbo and was treated to some great on-track experience. The base EXO, some staff and Sailor of the Year were given Porsche Speed Fest shirts. Some great brownie points were earned here and thanks to all who helped with the "schmoozing".
Finally, but not least of all was the way the club pulled together to get the track hot on time and make things run smoothly. It was pitch black in the morning and despite my best efforts to get things organized ahead of time, the darkness proved to be an obstacle that was a bit daunting.Thank you volunteers for making that happen. And a special thank you to Jim Binford who flew back from the East Coast just to babysit those HMSA whiners and not even drive!

Giving those guys a ride was a blast.

I think I have a hole in my passenger floorboard from the many times each one of them tried using the passenger brake pedal as I was going into the back Chicane.

The funniest moment is when I gave a ride to a small lady officer and after a few laps she looked pale.
I came back into the pits and as soon as she opened the door, she left her lunch on the tarmac.
Her colleagues kept laughing at her.

I asked myself a question: Aren t NAVY officers trained to be on a boat in inclement weather :)

I had a similar experience with them. They started bracing themselves at about the point they realized we were coming up to the tire wall and I was still accelerating. I asked all of them when they got in my car if they got car sick and none of them did.

Navy officers are trained to be on a SHIP in inclement weather. Much different than a boat and not anywhere near being in a car with Tawfik at speed on a track with lots of high G corners. :roflmao:

I hope the "glitch" in the information stream doesn't mean there will be no military folks to give rides to on the weekend, I'm feeling a little guilty for giving my wife rides all day instead of the sailors.
I'll be there Saturday with a full tank of gas, I'll try to make up for it........
I'll be bringing my s/s 944 that I bought for $2500, I hope to show the sailors that Porsche club events are within their reach and not (as most outsiders would think) just for the wealthy. The drivers of 944's are having JUST AS MUCH FUN as the GT-3 crowd.
I, for one, would welcome San Diego's multitude of Sailors and Marines into SDR with open arms.

To echo what Martin said and to expand a bit, thank you to everyone that helped with the logistics and execution of what could possibly be a historic day for PCASDR!! We don't know if we'll ever be able to run this event/track again, but if we can't, we can all look back and say PCASDR was the first car club aside from the vintage racers that every got to run this track event and those that drove yesterday can say, "Yup, I was there"!!

Great volunteers from Race Steward Jim Binford up in the "tower" that flew back home from D.C. to help out to Jackie ("I never met a cone that didn't deserve it") Corwin that was pressed into service all day. George AKA Galis that volunteered his services for the day to all the instructors that gave rides to the officers and enlisted men and women that protect our freedom to do these kind of events. As Martin said, we were prepared to give 6 or 7 officers rides yesterday and when life threw us a curve ball, we asked our instructors to step up and got over 100 rides in. Simply Fantantic!!

We started off a little rough, but after the dust settled, it was just an awesome day!! I loved the diversity of the different vehicles that were out there yesterday from what Tom Tweed mentioned in another thread with the NASCAR Cup and Trucks, to the 430 Scuderia, to the twin Corvette ZR-1s, to the Panoz, to the million dollar Porsche 904s and so on and so on!! From the feedback I received yesterday, it was all positive and everyone said they would run it again if given the opportunity.

As we take a break from the track today, some of the instructors will be out at the Coronado Speedfest again Saturday and Sunday to give sailors and spectators rides. Hopefully PCASDR will continue to impress the military and build upon the relationship created by this event/weekend. Stay tuned.... :beerchug:

You'd be surprised at what the prices of ALL cars, have dropped to in this economy, not just a certain model...

Dave, try as I might by cording 3 out of 4 Hoosiers before going to my backup tires, the GT3 was no match for the kinds of seriously fast track machinery out there yesterday. I was at full throttle on the front straight and that NASCAR truck ran, not walked, but ran away from me. All the Porsche race cars were flying too.

And to quote your signiture, a finish WAS a win yesterday :D ..................... "More Tires"...... :roflmao:

Our instructors were fantastic! Every time we noticed that the number of sailors waiting for rides was growing a little, we went through the pits asking our instructors to jump in and help out by giving them rides. Every time our instructors responded with enthusiasm. Lots of happy sailors!

And thanks to Curt who allowed me take some sailors around the track in his GT3. Even though I was probably 5 seconds off Curt's pace, those sailors were thrilled. Drove them around until the brakes started to smell a bit. . .

Thanks to all our volunteers who made this possible, but a very special thanks has to go out to Martin whose energies made all this happen. And Martin didn't even get to drive! He realized that he'd have so many little fires to attend to during the event that he'd better be available all the time -- and he was. I vote Martin for Enthusiast of the Year.

^^^^ What Carl said...^^^^ Martin was definitely the lead dog on this event pullin' the sled at will. Carl and I, well you know the saying, "If you ain't the lead dog, the view never changes."

Thanks to all who made this event Great Fun, Great Job putting it together and running it as well. I also took a couple Military Folks for a ride, and it was fun to see them reaching for a pushing on the brake pedal that wasn't !

It was fun giving the rides

Especially when Leigh Rayner and others drive by and tell them DONT GET IN THAT CAR!!!

The screams from the passenger seat were louder than the engine, and that is saying something. I usually came into the pits when I saw them working the cramps out of their hands on straights from hanging on so tight! Must admit I did work it a bit  , really late braking is especially fun  going into the chicane.

They were all EXTREMELY nice and appreciative. We are not worthy

Great event, thanks to everyone who made it happen!

+1. Everyone really pulled together to make a really challenging event run smoothly. A tremendous effort was made by Martin Lipp, and his efforts really made the whole thing happen. Martin, you rock, Dude! Now ... get some sleep.

I'm optimistic about our future with the Navy, and very hopeful that the sun will shine on PCASDR through the eyes of the Fleet Week and NASNI people. It was a great event.

 Hats Off to the DE Team! Thank You for your incredible efforts. :beerchug:

We at Davis Stone Motorsports (Ken, Tom, and I) would like to thank PCASDR for your hospitality on Thursday. It sounds as though our little '00 Ford Ranger was a bit of a hit with everybody, we'll try to install a passenger seat for next year. We're available for B-days, Weddings and 'mitzvas. :D

The DE really did work out to our advantage as we were experiencing some fuel delivery issues Friday and Saturday at the HMSA event. The fuel issues got sorted out Sunday morning and the Mustang ran a full 20 minutes with no issues, but were still starting from dead last for the race. Starting from 17th, Ken ,"drove the wheels off that thing" and passed a Ferrari 3.0L prototype car on the 2nd to last lap for 3rd. If only we had another 2-3 laps....

Good job! Does the HMSA post results from the event? I looked on their website and couldn't find anything yet.
