I would have been faster, but my tires were worn, my car is too heavy, the springs are too soft, the sun was in my eyes and I can't drive. I think that about covers it. :roflmao:
It was a great event! Thanks to everyone who was there and who helped to make it so much fun. :beerchug:

One of the most impressive moments of the weekend was watching the pumpkin practicing donuts down the front straight in anticipation of breaking the lap record. Wait! That was unplanned? Well he only missed the record by a few hundreths.

Windy (outside the cars, too)

It was a blast. Richard, please tell Sean I didn't call you to make that post (but THANKS!) All joking aside that "pumpkin" was driving on fire, and made 6 in the BRI. SWEEEEET!

Jackie, both of you were driving like you were on fire. Nice job on 8th in BRI. I'm still trying to figure out why GP and Spec have different BRI's?

It was fun riding along while those two played tag at the ragged edge. As I understand it Mark, GP is free to use those secret-weapon-mondo-sticky tires while SPEC runs only RA-1/888s. That would explain the tougher BRI factor for GP. Perhaps our resident BRI expert can chime in??

You and I ran pretty close times this weekend also. Next time we will have to get in a little tag don't you think? Could be fun. :beerchug:

I believe it is because 944Spec is limited as to mods allowed and by the fact that a spec tire must be run. The improvements allowed in Spec are generally very cost-effective (like weight removal) and aimed at leveling competition (mostly stock motors). PCA rules allow for GP class to use 20 points of improvements without those considerations, and could potentially yield a car of higher speed potential (by using bigger stickier tires with costly HP improvements). Because a Spec car might also run in GP doesn't mean that it is optimized for that class. The removal of weight is highly penalized in Zone 8 rules compared to its relative benefit. The removal of 350 lbs. from a stock 944 to make Spec weight equals a 12 point penalty alone. That leaves 8 points for suspension and tires (which must be RA1s by Spec rules, no?) By using all 20 points to increase HP, improve the suspension, and reduce weight judiciously, then adding Hoosiers or V710s to the car (ignoring the Spec rules) would result in overall lower lap times (according to the BRI, a GP car should be 1.3 seconds faster than a Spec car in a 1:40 lap).

TT

Tom, Thanks for the insight. I guess the tires would make the biggest difference. Now I can leave the weight in, get super sticky tires, get LSD, boost the hp and...

Mark, if you through enough money at it the end product could look like this... :D

No kudos for Bob Ehrman tearing up the track with a 1:26? Has anyone in the Club ever gone faster --just curious.
Congrats, Bob. Nice driving!

That's what I'm talking about! I think that might be a little more than 20 points though.
