SDR's Jim Richmond crowned NASA SoCal 944 Spec Champ!
The season's points were close enough to swing either way between PCASDR's Jim Richmond and Jim Foxx from Palm Desert, but Richmond's consistent and well-placed finishes made the difference in the end. The fight was settled Nov. 7th and 8th at Buttonwillow with the final 2 races of the year... and in a borrowed car!
To add a twist to the scene, Richmond's engine started making rod bearing noises during practice. It looked like he would have to bow out and let Foxx take over the points lead, but in the purest of 944 Spec class ideals, in stepped Santa Monica's Chris Allen with an offer to use his spare 944 Spec racer, formerly owned by PCASDR's Bill Addy. How often do you see that? Richmond made a few adjustments to get the car the way he liked it and finished high enough to keep his points lead and capture the wheel-to-wheel title.
Not bad for a parking lot racer!
