This is open to any club member that desires some help with their driving skills.

In my opinion, having a few autocrosses under your belt beforehand is better than zero experience. I think you will get a more out of it because you know what to expect and you have an idea of what to look for and what to work on.

Agreed. You should take the school. It will help with car control both on the street and at the AX.

Marie,

Some of the things that we'll go over are throttle steering, threshold braking, accident avoidance, slalom, early, mid and late apex, finding and driving the line as well as performance driving dynamics. This is an unbelievable deal for $300. Friday night there is a chalk talk to discuss performance driving basics. Saturday is spent doing various driving exercises on wet skid pads (allowing drivers to experience high speed driving dynamics at lower speeds). Sunday is spent doing a non competitive autocross with an instructor who will work with you all day. The price includes dinner on Friday night as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. All of this is made possible by the wonderful volunteer instructors and chairpersons of the San Diego Region. Compare the pricing for this to any driving school.

Let me know if you have any questions.

This school is great! I went to the last one in October and I'm thinking about doing it again already. It was a great way to not only improve my driving, but to really get to know my then new-to-me Boxster. Every single exercise had something to offer, but the skidpad stuff had a huge impact on me and how I approach corners during autocrosses. Where else can you safely and legally experiment with hanging the tail out?

I think the school is good for virtually everyone. I have been doing AX, TT and club racing for 15+ years and still like the school (unfortunately as an intructor which means less seat time), because I get to practice and refine my skills in the exercises while I teach and demonstrate. I don't know of anyone who cant use a little more practice on specific skills in a nice controlled environment. Plus you get to discuss specifics with other drivers of all levels and generally just meet people and have fun.

I would love to do the school again as a student. Where else can you practice (safely) steering your car just with your right foot (and no hands on the wheel)? And practice pitching and catching (or pitching at least) over and over without worrying about curbs, trees, or other obstacles? :beerchug:
