Hello, I recently sold one of my cars and I am in the market to get an old 911. I wanted to get some info of what years are better? Is there any books out there that will help me get started. I want to make sure I am getting a number matching car. I thought this would be a great place to get info. I have never had Porsche before so I am pretty green.

I am looking for a nice old 911 up to year 1974. I want no smog issues.

Regards,

If you are looking for a pre '74 car, I would look at the Early 911S Registry website and message board for alot of really helpful info.

Welcome!
Whew! That's a big question.........

2 things:
1. You have a lot of homework to do. There are 4 generations of engines, a couple different body shapes, 2 wheelbases, coupes, targas, etc. just in the era you picked.( up to '74).
2. Make sure you know how to drive the car before you start pushing it. Since it's your first 911, we should tell you the handling is counter-intuitive. Performance driving school is the answer. :)
