Orange County AX procedures

Hi - I know some of you must go to Orange Coast Region AX's and other events. Needing as much seat time as I can get, I thought I might try an AX there. I'm having trouble finding info on their web site. Is their process same as ours, with tech 6:30 - 7:30, etc? Anybody get pre-teched so as not to have to get there so early?

I am interested in going to the February El Toro AX as well. I also had a hard time with their website, it is not as well organized as the SD one.

You will have to create a new login account to first enter the registration site. One thing to keep in mind is that the autocross registration has a limit on entrants so you need to register a few weeks early or run the risk of not being able to enter. Walk-up registration is normally not an option because the registration is filled by the day of the event. As of today,there are already 50 entrants for the event which is a month away.

There are several top national champion and other SCCA non-Porsche autocrossers who regularly attend the events, and the OCR autocross events are probably the most popular in Zone 8 because of the El Toro venue and the chance to get instruction from several top national AX drivers. Typically 15-20% of the entrants are SCCA non-Porsche cars. The February 21st event is a practice event. The first OCR AX 2010 series event is March 14th, the date of the first Formula 1 event for 2010.

Yes, the first event on February 21st is a non-points event. The driver's clinic is the day before on Saturday. It's going to be a busy weekend at El Toro because the EVO autocross driving schools are on Saturday and Sunday as well, and several OCR drivers will be there too. The remaining 10 events on the schedule beginning on March 14th are for class points in the 2010 series. I hate to use new tires for a non-points practice event but I've got to sort out some changes on the car and get ready for the series events. See you there.

What are the control clinics?

OCR's Car Control Clinics are patterned after SDR's Performance Driving School. The clinic's driving exercises for the students consist of the skid pad, accident avoidance, limit braking, slalom, increasing-decreasing radius turns, pitch and catch and a mini-autocross. Most of the students (but not all) who attend OCR's Car Control Clinic want to start autocrossing and learn performance driving techniques to help make them a better and safer driver on the course. At the end of the day, there is a mini-autocross that provides an opportunity for the students to put some of these driving techniques into practice.

Is there a reason the OC AX is $60?
Hopefully since this event is a practice there will be a smaller turnout = more laps

The general cost of all the OCR AX's are $60. Usually you get a nice free lunch and sometimes maybe a live band, but the early sign-up fee is $60. There is a late fee added if (I think) the sign-up is after the Tuesday before the event. For more info on sign-ups, fee, etc. it is best to contact Christine at autoxreg@sbcglobal.net

The practice event is normally run just like a regular autocross event, and there will probably be around 90-100 drivers, maybe more, but the registration may be limited because of the shorter evening daylight time in February. The normal amount of runs at an event is around 12, with two sessions of 4 and 4 timed runs. At the car control clinic, you will get a lot of driving time.

Update! For those interested and as a follow-up for this thread, OCR's first autocross has been changed from a practice to a full points event counting towards the 2010 OCR autocross series championships.
