Rules Question

So after reading the "ENGINE DROP" thread... it brings up a few questions....

A car that was ordered with an LSD ... Thats not a "Non-Stock" LSD is it?

What about the guys that add a "Whale Tail" to their cars.... thats 2 Points right?

What about "Port Matching" but not polishing... 5 points also?

The little plastic/rubber lip on the SC and Carrera .... 2 Points?

Im just curious... Im in no way pointing any fingers, just thought I would clear the air with this one.

I drive in a class that the rules are very defined, but many dont... i.e. the PASM cars. although, I think that is settled finally.

Morgan:

To answer your questions:

Yes.

Just do what Jae Lee does: put down 200 points, run in AR-2, and be done with it. :roflmao:

Regarding LSD, unless ALL base cars of that model came with it (like GT3), it's 2 points, even if your particular car had it as a factory option.
You are correct about the port matching too - add 5 points. Note that the Whale Tail is two points, and so is the front rubber chin spoiler,
but together they are not 4 (section III.U lists it as an "and/or" clause).

Ha ha. I like your answer Dan! it makes sense to do it that way. Just have fun!

Paul, you read the rules the same way I did. Im building a 6-8 point car depending on the tires that are on it.
Some of the rules are unclear, or at least when you have parts in your rafters... you want them to be un clear.

I agree with the LSD rule, but it dosent say anything about 100% of the cars having to have it... but either way, its trivial.

What Paul is trying to say is that if it came standard, it is no points, but if you had to ask for it (ie. it was an option) then it takes points. Though I suppose even that may be a little gray, because a lot of cars come with things that are technically options, just because the factory puts it on them (like sunroofs) because they figure most people want them. If the factory called the LSD an option, it takes points.

... and therein lies the true answer to points, class, who's in the wrong class, who's cheating, who stole my cheese, et cetera ...

Just have fun! Build and drive the car you desire, and worry about the points later.

I think it was Forrest W. who said "Build out your car how you like it, drive it, and worry about the points thing later." Sage advice.

I dont think anyone stole my cheese and I dont think anyone is "cheating" nor will I EVER cheat.

I just think a lot of people dont read the rules like TB911, Paul, Dan or myself. You have to dig into them if you want to stay honest.

I wanted to put those questions out there because these are the questions Im asked on a regular basis by multiple curious people.

Thanks for everyones input.

My opinion on this matter is that you should carefully research the Rules and check your wallet before you proceed to build the car of your dreams. If you want to be competitive, you should always shoot to maximize the car preparation for a specific class. This means carefully evaluating the modifications you have in mind, counting the points ON PAPER FIRST and then building the car, again with the objective of achieving optimal preparation for a given class. Believe me, the results are much more rewarding following this approach :D

That's exactly right, Otto .... IF you are building a car specifically to compete with, no? What about the guy/gal who want to build a unique, fast, one-of-a-kind street car? What if they consider competition issues as a secondary thought to a great touring/road-handling machine?

What if they decide to upgrade to better technology because it's less $$ and more reliable than re-building their old system (Now, who would do such a thing!! )? What if they were more interested in great technology and thought of the points later?

While I don't disagree with you that building out a car specifically for a class is the best way to go for a track car, what if your target wasn't the track? ("GASP! WHAT!?!? ARE YOU CRAZY, DAN?!? WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUILD OUT A CAR NOT FOR COMPETITION PURPOSES? COME ON, GET WITH THE PROGRAM YOU FOOL!") Hard to believe, but some builders consider more than just tracking the car in the PCA points system. For me, it's building a really fun street ... yes, street ... car that will be fun to compete with.

Well, just a thought, anyway...

And, a great thought, too, Dan. Sounds like you'll have a great car for street fun and track competition. II class will be even more fun this year, when you roll out the "new" Pearl and join us all chasing Otto. Looking forward to it... 8)

Thanks, Don. Yes, I-Yai-Yai should be a fun class. With a couple of fast 911's equipped with good drivers, and  "Ominous Otto" out there in the ranks, I'll have my hands full. Should be really, really fun.

Morgan: are you building out the SC to II spec's? (Yikes! I'm asking for trouble!)

II is out of the question for me in this economy $$$$ :banghead:
Oh well, I guess I'll have to slap my Bro, Jeff around in HP this year

nope. IS or ISS depending on what tires are on the car that day.
