Cheaper insurance is not always better if they don't pay when you need them.
I would be interested in recommendations
for or against companies you have had experience with.

+1, no claims yet but they are about 1/2 what I could get with allstate or progressive.

I've had Wawanesa insurance a few years now and they have been very inexpensive. I'll let you know about the claims soon as my 20 yr old daughter was in an accident a couple of days ago and we have just started the claims process. This will be our first claim with them. 2 cars merging into the same lane at the same time.

Guys
Thank you for the info so far.
Greg, we will be most interested in hearing about the outcome. I assume your daughter is fine

I use Mercury to insure both my personal and business fleet vehicles, 10-15 vehicles on average. Ahem... Yes there have been claims. Mercury was very fair during the claims process when it was my drivers fault and they protected my interests when it was someone elses fault. They like good driving records and their rates are competetive. The downside: Their billing proceedures are really odd. I just pay every 6 months. Good luck in your search.
Note: Your Porsche is also fully covered on track days as long as there is no official timing involved. AX, TT and Club racing you are on your own.

We have always had AAA insurance and they have always been very fair. Never had any issues with repairs, choice of repair shops, etc.
If you are thinking the policy will cover you at PCA events, read very carefully. AAA excludes any "prearranged speed contests" from coverage. I interpret that to mean that non-timed AX practice runs *might* be covered (particularly when instructing), as well as Driver's Education events, but clearly not timed runs of any kind.

We have had Wawanesa for years, including one partial head on by my oldest going to Big bear at 17 years old,and two years of litigation and still and no rate increase. In fact they took both of my boys on their policies at great rates.

Talk to Jerry Griffin from OCR. He's an insurance broker. He can probably dial you in with info and ideas. He's not pushy and will recommend the best situation for your needs, not just push a policy. He's the OCR CDI so he understands track interests.

I'm with Farmers and cannot recommend them. Farmers once filed a claim against my son, when he had not done anything wrong! It's a long story, but my experience is they would rather blame me than defend me.

Update on Wawanesa. They, insurance company, found my daughter 100% at fault on the accident. Repairs to her car cost about $3500. I don't know how much the repairs to the other car, a Lexus RX-350's damaged side costs came out to.
The claims process went very smoothly. I took it to the shop of my choice even though they tried to steer me to their preferred vendor.
I just got my policy renewal. Yes, they are going to renew the policy. My daughter's car is going up about $350 for this next policy year after the accident. The rest of my cars stayed about the same as last year.

Martin:
If you purchase one share of Berkshire Hathaway B shares (about $72.50 today) you can get an "owner's discount" on GEICO insurance. They are very competitive price wise, right in there with Mercury and Wawanesa.

I've been with 20th/21st Century for more than a decade. They have been great. I even filed a claim when hit for uninsured motorist covrage when I got plowed by a teen in daddy's uninsured station wagon. The next year, based on "good driver discount" my rates actually went down.
I insure my cars and truck for low deductible/high coverage/full comp-collision-uninsured motorist-etc ... and the cost is just under $1,200.00 a year ... with special considerations for the "improvements" to the 911SCrs.

I like 21st Century, but you have to qualify to be covered.
