New Spyder at Fontana May 8 DE - V.2

Postby Curt Yaws on Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:31 pm

I just learned this morning from Porsche National that PCNA will provide a Boxster Spyder for the Fontana DE. There were a large number of regions across the country requesting the car and 6 were chosen, including us. My understanding is that PCNA will provide instructors who will give laps. The initial correspondence from PCA National to me indicated that we would be driving the car. The DE Team is handling the management of the event and they tell me that PCNA drivers ONLY will be driving the car. So, no Dan, no Peter, no you, no me. :( This is a very limited production car that appears to be sold out before release. You might want to get signed up now! :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: Stay tuned!

Nice try, but no...

I heard it was based on seniority.. , so there will only be a handful of us... unless some of you CDI short timers have been here since 1997??...

Oh, I can just feel the old jokes heading my way..

Sorry no CDI's or board members will be able to drive the Spyders, but fear not, I will be able to give everyone who wants a few hot laps in one. :D

Okay, I won't be able to drive one either. Curt is correct in that out of ALL the happenings in the US, Porsche North America chose only 6 events to launch their new car and our DE in Fontana is one of them

Unfortunately, the truth is that Porsche will be sending out their professional instructors from their Alabama Porsche Driving Experience School to drive, not one, but TWO of the new Boxster Spyders and one Panamera. Due to insurance regs, no one else, even Curt, will be able to drive any of these 3 cars on track.

Porsche did ask me if we would line up a volunteer to help coordinate all the rides they envision given the DE participants during the day so if anyone or two people want to step up and volunteer, please send me a PM. I'm sure that person (s) will get the first hot laps on the passenger seat for the day.

Damn! My membership started in 1998. I think that was the year after they stopped using stone wheels. Dan, I'm sure you remember those. I think they marked them with the treadwear rating like this "CCLX"

See my edit above. PCA National asked if we would host the event and indicated we would be driving the cars. It looks like PCNA have changed their format and will be providing instructor driven hot laps to anyone attending the DE. It's still a great opportunity and one you won't likely see again. These are primarily collectible cars and not something you will see on the local track. We are very fortunate to have these cars at the DE. And, if you really don't like the Spyder, grab three of your friends and hop in the Panamera. There was one doing hot laps at Fontana after the racing closed on Sunday.

Peter, let's make arrangements to send them out with the run groups, so we can REALLY see what they can do...none of this "Taste of" of stuff...make 'em show us some something :!:

The pro instructors in the Spyders/Panamera will be in all run groups. The only stipulation we requested is that their instructors show "responsible speed" in the slower run groups and not blow past other cars. Other than that, they will be mixing it up with us all day long.

Dan A., is that "Seniority" or were you referring to your membership is a "Senior's Sorority"? :roflmao: (Oh, I couldn't resist.. Sorry, Dan but you fit under that bus so well, I couldn't not throw you under it. I know I'm gonna pay for it now ... :banghead: )

Seriously, I think it's great that there will be a couple o Spyders and Panamera there. Sorry we can't drive them, but if a pro Instructor were to show me a few driving tips, I'm sure to enjoy the ride even more.
