PCA SDR

So my brother and I just spent 3 days turning laps at Fontana in the Time Trials but we just didn't quite get in enough apex time ... Off to our monthly karting boys night out at K1 Speed. On our first run we got some nice fresh Karts and turned our fastest laps ever, easily leading top time of the week and close to the track record. Shortly after our run a bunch of guys went out on the track and showed us how it is really done by besting our times and setting a new lap record for track 1. Who are these guys? How can this happen!?!? It was none other than Bryan Sellers, Wolf Henzler, and Darren Macnamera who are here for the ALMS race at the Long Beach Grand Prix this week.

I guess if we have to take a beating on our home track, the fact that they are ALMS Porsche Works drivers and Formula Drift champion drivers from Team Falken Tire softens the blow a bit. A nice little gift after a great Porsche weekend!

That's a good one and apparently these professional drivers are truly track junkies that will drive anything any time.
Another funny story:

In March of this year, about 6 days before the first F1 race of the year in Bahrain, the son of a friend of mine who works at an indoor karting center in Sylmar (just north of downtown LA and before Highway 14 to travel to Lancaster) was working and said he saw a guy that looked like Lewis Hamilton, but thought, "Nay, why would Lewis Hamilton be here days before the 1st GP of the year".

This young kid had the track record at the indoor facility for the past 3 years. Within the first session, the guy that looked like "Lewis Hamilton", broke the track record by .3. Needless to say he went up to him and confirmed it was Lewis Hamilton. He asked him what he was doing in LA and he said he was out visiting his girlfriend before heading off to the Middle East. They took pictures, had him sign autographs and everything.

You wouldn't think these guys would bother with indoor karting, but I guess its in the blood.

Come on now - don't you guys watch Dancing with the Stars? Lewis Hamilton's American Girlfriend Nicole Shersinger, lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, is competing. She is really doing well on the show. On the first night of the show , they filmed Lewis in the front row of the audience. I guess he got in a little kart time while he was supporting her.

Ok...so...he drives like a genius...AND dates Nicole Shersinger. NOW i'm impressed

Thanks Gunter, yes I miss my PCA friends too.

But, the fact is I love racing wheel to wheel and discovering new race tracks. Hey why don't you get a Formula car? It's actually bigger/longer than the 911 except for the cockpit and leg compartment.

I am having a lot of fun with the POC Cup racing and the SDR TT's, which is still the best deal in town as far as seat time. Actually lots of our PCASDR folks are at POC these days so it's kind of a home away from home. With the POC bucks you can do all events essentially at half price which is very cool( I did Laguna Seca last year for $ 475 for the 3 days).Love your open wheel "real" race car but the old Austrian is a little too old, too slow, too fat...well I think you get the idea..
Would not mind to crew for you next time you have something close by.
By the way- Kevin Roush did a 1:26:8 a couple weeks ago in my car with my son Andrew in it...oh well, one day I may brake 1:30...

Nah, you are not too old, the seat is custom so we can make you fit in it.
I am guessing 1:26:8 was at WSIR, that is a impressive lap time in a 911. Your 1:30 is very good time too, my best in the 911 was a 1:31 during a club race.

Ok, wait, wait.....here's my funny story.
Monterey Historics 1998. I'm talking with a guy who's selling Nicholas Watts paintings of Racing Porsches.........I'm looking at a painting of the 1973 Targa Florio race which shows an RSR with a full fiberglass "Mary Stuart" tail ( which I happen to have on my own 911). I say to the seller, "Excuse me, but this painting is historically inaccurate. Norbert Singer only had an aluminum mock up attached to the car at this race. The fiberglassed tail didn't show up until later that year at Zeltweg."

The guy looks at me dumbfounded, (as if to say, how the &^%$#@ did you know that?)....then he actually, and calmly, says to me, "I'm not sure. Why don't you ask the man who drove the car at that race. He's standing right next to you." I turned and about crapped my britches right then and there. It was Gijs van Lennep in the flesh! We talked and he gave me his address in Holland so that I could ship some of my older racing posters, on which he appeared, to him to sign and return!
Now where are those posters tucked away?...
