This old photo reportedly of the start of the 1958 "Grand Prix du Julien" was
found in Julian Historical Society files. Photo taken at the noon start on April 1st, 1958, on Main Street. Reports are that Eugenio Castellotti
won in a factory 4.4 litre Ferrari with America Phil Hill second in a
750 Ferrari Monza. The Elva Engineering factory sports racers
from the UK trounced the Team Lotus "Elevens" and placed 1-2 in the prestigious
"Index of Performance" award. A Maserati 200si drriven by the Marquis de
Portago was third overall and first in the under two-litre class. At least one of these cars will appear in the 2010 Julian Classic Motoring Show.

Anyone coming up Saturday (May 22) can show their car on Main Street between 2-5 PM, then join a LeMans start as we hop in and drive the 2 miles to the winery. Reception for owners 5-7 PM. All others welcomed to join in too for $15, includes hors-d'oeuvres plus a tix to Sunday's Show. It's all for charity.

John S. and PCASDR members: I have additional information on this Event based on my original announcement of March 14 and the new information that John Straub has just posted here.

There will also be a Tour, not sponsered by the PCASDR or the FOC, but directly by the Julian Classic Motoring Society and Cavallo Motorsports that will start at the Cavallo Motorsports Facilty at 6010 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad on Saturday, May 22nd at 12.00 noon and take a route through Harmony Grove and include also most of the route of the recent Backcountry Tour to arrive in time for the Main Street Show in downtown Julian that John has mentioned and for the reception at the Menghini Winery that is planned for that Evening from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. Remember, that as John has said, the actual Concours Event is on Sunday.

For more information on the Tour, please contact rhonda@cavallomotorsports.com or jim@cavallomotorsports.com

For more information on the Julian Classic Motoring Show, please contact the Julian Classic Motoring Society, Stephen R. Sheppard- Show Chairman (WTF RACING) at
