Skip and Suesan, (GPX) are running an event there on 27 Jun.
The flyer states something about recent re-paving.

Have any of you driven this course recently?
Thumbs up or down?
Any elevation changes?
Any interest in going?

Cheers

Craig

From what I understand...part of the track they are using is on the old race course.

Yes Yes! The Boxster brothers will be there. This is part of the old historic track at the LA fairgrounds and next to the Pomona Winter Nationals Drag Strip. There is a "cool factor" here similar to running the Coronado DE last year. The LA Sheriff dept. still uses it for pursuit training. John Straub can probably dig up some pics of Speedsters and 550 Spyders going around this course in the early days. Here is a bit of history on the track with some pics from 1960: http://home.roadrunner.com/~fsheff/pomona2.htm

This is also a Zone 8 event for those of you seeking AX points. Come on out and play.

Correction , this is a 2.2 mile road course. Maybe correct the subject? Sounds fun.

From what I understand this event is not a DE with continuous lapping prior to the AX like they do at Streets. I guess I should contact Skip or Suesan and find out for sure, but regardless, I will be going anyway. It is about 10 miles from my house.

As with most race tracks there are several possible configurations. I don't think the organizers have settled on one yet because no one has done this track for a while. Big long straights don't seem very useful for an AX so I suspect a tighter course than the full 2.2 mile.

Here is a nice pic I found of Caroll Shelby leading Phil Hill back in the day at Pomona:

Here is a shot of a POC event back in '74. Photos by Chuck Miller used on the Early 911S site.

Just a note: During the old sports car races they allowed photographers on the bridge until one of them dropped his camera on the track.
