Does anybody need a trailer parking spot in San Marcos?

I just made some room for 2 small trailer spots on my property. The area is gated and locked and has excellent access and with no limitations of closing time. Perfect for car trailer, small boat trailer, etc. Near 78 and Twin Oaks exit. Reasonable rates for friends (ask Chuck or Bernie) :roflmao:

I just received my first notice from the City of San Diego: violation notice for vehicle parked longer than 72 hours.

Apparently one of my "loving neighbors" complained about my trailer parked in front of my own house and I was given 24 hours to remove, relocate, or prove it had been driven 1/10 mile in the last 24 hours. So, I've stowed the trailer in my driveway for the weekend. I'll relocate it back on the street in a few days (Tuesday or Wednesday) and see what may happen.

Ironically, I park my F-150 where the trailer usually goes. :roflmao:

The next door neighbor likes where I park the trailer because it reduces the possibility of the local teen hoods parking in front of her house, hanging out, smoking and drinking booze by her bedroom window. She's actually more upset about me moving the trailer than I am. Go figure.

If you park any vehicles on the (San Diego city) street (trailers, boats, cars, et cetera) be sure you either kiss every neighbor's b*tt, or move it around (1/10 of a mile, remember) every 72 hours. that's the law. :surr:

Interestingly enough: I had a friend with a boat who had a similar experience in Pacific Beach (where parking is a nightmare). He'd get a "pink notice," move his boat to the other side of the street, then move it back a day or two later. After moving it twice, he stopped getting notices and left the trailer in front of his house for years without incident. When I asked a friend in law enforcement about it he said if a patrol unit or tow truck is dispatched to follow up on a complaint and find no violation two times in a row, they "ignore the complainant's request" and inform the complainant that "based or our follow-up there appears to be no violation."

So, I'll play the game ... I've got nothin' but time on my side ... and a driveway large enough for my trailer. 8) Until the city makes it illegal to park a car or truck on the street at all times, I'll jockey the trailer with the F-150.

Be careful, if you interpret the law the way I do, many trailers can NOT be parked on the street except for loading and unloading. The law seems to be unclear as to what is allowed to park up to 72 hours, and what can't park at all. Enforcement USUALLY allows the 72 hours, but doesn't have to. Have fun!

Good point.

It's interesting because my neighborhood is filled with RV's, boat trailers, and utility trailers that are regularly parked on the street. One neighbor has 2 boats in the street in front of his house that haven't moved since we've lived there.

The only mark the cops have to go by is the little chalk arrow they put by the tire. For all they know, I'm going to El Cajon every day (or, just unlocking the axle and pushing the trailer by hand to the other side of the driveway. )

So, interpretation of the law will most likely be up to the cop who posts the notice, the neighbor who complains, and if necessary, the judge who adjudicates my defense. (I've got time for court, does the cop? )

DC 8)

Update: I spoke with the Vehicle Abatement for the City of San Diego department this morning. The representative said if the follow-up visit indicates the vehicle is "in compliance with the 72-hour code, no further action is taken."

When I asked who interprets "in compliance" he said:

" The department returns to check the location of the vehicle relevant to the mark left on the tire & street when posting the pink slip. If the vehicle is found in compliance, no further action is taken by the department."

So I asked: "Okay, so what if the complaint person calls again to complain about the vehicle, how is the department going to know I am 'regularly in compliance?' What if my 'loving neighbor' continually calls to report my trailer?"

His answer:
"We notify the dispatcher at the SDPD of compliance and they make a note that the vehicle at said address is in compliance, and they don't dispatch a unit again."

When we had a complaint in Chula Vista about our trailer parked in the front yard. We checked the rules and moved it as needed. But with the second complaint we asked the compliance officer if he really wanted to go there because of the numerous trailers, RV's, etc. incorrectly parked in Chula Vista. We were there at the time he wrote the ticket. He stated the law is the law. I can't and couldn't argue with that. So 3 days later a list of over 50 violations were delivered to the compliance office with accompanying complaints and a statement that when we got more time more were to follow. We were never bothered again. There are times I find myself not being very nice, but the law is the law. :x I have a legal place not in my front yard to park it now, but not because of the compliance officer. Just because I got tired of it in my front yard.

Y'all need to move to the back country, we even park our washing machines and dryers in the front yard and on the front porch up here. " Porch" wasn't that part of a bad joke? :roflmao: :roflmao:

Exactly why we started looking for a new house in Valley Center, well that and our business is there and it sucks commuting from El Cajon everyday.

This is just crying out for one of those "You might be a redneck..." jokes by Jeff Foxsworthy like:

"...if directions to your house include the words "turn off the paved road..."
or
"...you have to go outside to get something out of the 'fridge..."
or
"...people come to your door mistakenly thinking you have an auto salvage business..."
or
"...blowing a tire means a new flower pot for the front yard...."

Or " If you have to mow the lawn to find the washing machine to wash your clothes".

Maybe all that is true, but there is a lot to be said for every house having a minimum of 2 acres and enough space to park a trailer without the police or the mean old HOA lady that has nothing better to do than bitching about a car trailer!
