After 9 years it happened, and in praise of a local hero..

Well, I have dodged a bullet for 9 years and at Saturdays AX it happened on the starting line of my second timed run. You see I had TTOD all locked up... Thats right Erik, you heard me!... On launch I went forward then heard a pop and it felt like it just popped out of gear, but when I tried to get any gear there was no forward motion.
i pushed it into the pits , with some help (thank you!) and could only watch as Erik hit that ridiculous 1:17... :surr:
I waited for Steve Grosekemper to finish his timed , yes he beat me too.. :banghead: And he said it could be the diff had broken, but then smiled and said "but i may be able to fix it in 15 minutes"... ok , sure I believe you. I asked if I could tow it to Deiters until I could figure out what I was going to do and he said no problem, he said he had to pick up his girls but he says we will make it happen. Any idea on what kind of relief that is to hear when you are 70 miles from home? The tow truck got there pretty fast and Steve went ahead to open the shop, and Mick followed us in his car (as an important side note Mick hasn't been to an AX in probably a couple years and decided to do this one and he lives just a few miles from me, how lucky is that? Thank you again Mick!) When we arrived Steve has the tow driver back into the shop , now while I am watching this I notice..ya know I have my tires on the roof rack and it looks awfully close to the.... STOP!!!!!!!!!!! if he would have continued my roof rack and tires would have been scraped off of my car by the roll up door.. after the disaster was averted Steve got the car on the lift and took the passenger side half shaft off and you could see the thing wobbling like it wasn't connected to anything, he then pulls the center bolt out of the stub axle going into the trans and says.."go buy a lottery ticket"... It was just the stub axle itself that broke and yes you guessed it, if he would have had one there it would have been about 15 minutes to fix... Of course Saturday rates apply, and I do remember Mick asking Steve earlier in the day if he works on Saturdays, and well , you all probably heard Steve's laugh from anywhere in the stadium.. Oh and there was this telling email from Steve this morning...

"I need all your personal info so I can run a credit check to see if you can afford this repair before I continue.
BTW- Do you own or rent?"

Sorry for the long winded post but I just wanted to publicly thank Steve and Mick both for their help. I am certain Steve wasn't planning on having to open his shop and work on my car , but I am very grateful he did. Thanks again.

There is one curious thing however...I could have sworn I heard cheering when my car was being towed out...probably just the wind...

Dan,
I was glad to be able to help and because I was late getting home I had to take the girls out instead of making dinner.
I order better than I cook.
But don't worry I will just add that to your bill.

You forgot to mention how you forgot your keys in the 911 after I closed the shop up and demanded that I come back and open back up...
Man, I hope I never get that forgetful when I get to be your age...

(I've only started buddy)

But seriously, helping others out is just really part of being in the club and good karma as far as I am concerned.
Ryan from RSR saved my bacon at the last Fontana by loaning me some special tools to fix Greg's car that otherwise would have required towing back home for repair. A dozen others offered assistance of any kind. Both Dave Q and Jae Lee have loaned me Carrera tensioner feed lines at TT's (in my kit now) Mark Kinninger tools and wheel spacers recently. The list goes on and on but the point is we are here to finish the event and out of everybody at the event we can probably get it fixed; or get you home at least.
If not we'll just hear about how they could have waxed us "if you hadn't broke"

Well Dan will be back with a running car in no time with a new list of excuses as to why he couldn't beat Erik and at least four other drivers...

And that's just the stuff that was fit to post on the forum... The rest went straight to Dan's email.
I decided to charge Dan Smack Talk comp time for Saturday instead of actual cash...
One penny at a time...

He probably deserved more, if only for making you drive back to the shop for a "senior moment" like forgetting keys. :roflmao:
