Is this guy crazy...?

...or am I? But this seems like a really good price...or a fake car....or a REALLY good deal... or?

Or there is a laundry list as long as my arm as to whats actually wrong with the car... Rust especially.
69 didn't have a ducktail.. Color change that needs paint , alone that will be 5-10k depending on the quality you want.
Need to verify matching engine/trans numbers etc. I am not saying its not a good deal , but take someone who knows the cars well and a screwdriver and check it out first.

Two years ago, that would possibly have been a good price (taking into account Larry's list of potential issues). In today's market, it is an OK deal if there is nothing major wrong. It would still take another $20k+ (if paying someone to restore it) to bring it up to near show quality, so for a "T", that is all the money in today's market.

Assuming it isn't a rust bucket, it still would be a potentially good deal as a "driver". :burnout:

Looks like an Earl Schibe paint job to me. The car's worth about a third of that at best, depending on the mechanical condition. Rust?
Here is a '90 cab for the same $ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche- ... 800-a.html

+1

My observations:
- after-market inexpensive decklid (car was hit?)
- Hints of rust all over the trunk area (an ice pick is really handy when looking at these old tubs ... easy to conceal in your pocket, too)
- Shoddy paint job (again ... hit?)
- Re-done seats with poor quality material/workmanship
- dirty head liner
- broken visors
- cheesy steering wheel cover . (orig. probably trashed)
- No telling how it runs. Engine looks refreshed (rebuilt after it was hit?)
- car is sitting very high in the rear. New (improper) shocks/torsion bars? Bad alignment ... after it was hit? (Again with the "hit" thing?)

I'd give the guy $4K and tell him he's lucky Father Joe doesn't come begging for a donation car. :surr:

Just my view ....

M... If it turns out that you're interested in this car Sean Molloy and I would be glad to help you look into it, ask the right questions, get you the best deal, and help you restore it. That's what we do. I can send you photos of some of our restorations, back-dates, and tribute cars if you'd like (one appears in my avatar below). Let us know. One of the kindest things you can do is to save an old car and put it back on the road.

Larry and all,

While I do apreciate your kind offer, and your fantastic insights, it was more of a general "what do you all think" kind of thing. Someday, perhaps, I will be able to get the non-whale tail, wide fender, turbo-look 911 that haunts my thoughts, but that will be some time well in the future I am sure. :D
