SGVPCA Zone 8 Pomona Fairplex Autocross June 27

Postby MarthaMc on Sun Jun 13, 2010 1:44 pm

This is posted per request of Robert Friedman of the SGVPCA. This is a Zone 8 event. Thanks, Martha

"Hello Everyone,
Just want to remind you that we have our Pomona Fairplex Autocross coming up in 2 weeks. Please pass this information on to your region members, and encourage people to sign up now and not wait till the last moment.

http://www.pcasdr.org/img/2010/calendar ... ocross.pdf

This will be a fast track as we will open-up better than half the track to higher speeds, and some fast corners. This track used to be the Pomona SCCA Raceway back in the 60’s. I encourage everyone to come out. 911 Design of Montclair is bringing some of their cars, and the racing car trailer.

BBQ Sandwich, potato salad and soda ($5 combo) will be available for sale at the track, these sandwiches will be delicious, roasted sirloin beef, piled high on a french roll, smothered in BBQ sauce.

Who all's going? I am signed up and looking forward to my first day on a bigger track! Does anyone want to form a little bit of a caravan heading up there in the morning? It will make the drive more fun.

I have been playing with my exhaust, will there be the same noise rules, or is this track more lax? I know funny cars are just a little over 91 db!

Thank you,
- Peter

There is a small "Park and Ride" parking lot off of the 15 Freeway and Deer Springs Road.
This should be far enough North that no one will have to back track.
According to Google it takes 1.5 hours to get there from Deer Springs Road, so we should meet up at about 5:30 to be in Pomona at 7:00 (I don't need to be there at 6:00 when the gates open  )
If anyone has a better idea, I am all ears.

I was thinking of just taking the 15 to the 10 since its the most direct route.
If any one else wants to join, chime in so we don't leave without you!
You can call me at (949) 525-8689 also.

Sounds good...see you at that park-n-ride at 5:30. Based on the huge response to this thread it looks like it will be a small SDR crowd to represent...oh well :burnout:

If we are the only two people there we can get in 120 or so laps each
I may even have to run to a tire shop halfway through the day :burnout: !!!

Seriously, no one else is going to this? Paid cornerworkers, a relatively short drive, a real track, and potato salad, seriously what else could you be doing on a Sunday thats better?

Dan,

Thanks for posting the yellow line showing us your line. It looks like you even plan on keeping it on the track most of the time. Keep working at and eventually you will find the entire track

Cones or not this is the closest thing I have done to a "real track" yet. Besides, Pomona used to be a very reputable race track. A friend of mine was telling me some cool stories about how the track used to run under the bridge and down the quarter mile track when he raced Formula Fords in the 70's

I am extremely excited about this!
See you guys soon!

79F and partly cloudy should be fabulous! See you guys there Sunday

Lets see if Dan can keep up with a pair of nearly stock 2.5L Boxsters in his fully prepared Gulf race car

Did anyone get any pics or video from this weekend?
I took a few very lousy pictures and one video of my dashboard jiggling around... Nothing worth sharing unfortunately :surr:
There is nothing posted on the PCA-GPX website yet. Maybe I am just being impatient!

The track was a LOT of fun. Fast, sticky and pretty smooth (unless you were clipping corners). It's just too bad they didn't take advantage of the WHOLE track! What a great time though. Each lap was a little over two minutes and 1.7 miles. I would do it again any time!
Thank you for inviting us,

Hey it was a great day. Fun track, great weather, nearly 100 cars and we finished on time. Official results and pics should be posted in a few days. Fairplex was very pleased with the organization and safety of all participants so we will definitely do this again. Lots of room left to open up the straights so the turbos can stretch their legs a bit.

Here is the GPS of the track layout, there were a couple of chicanes and a slalom but had to denote here. Great track and perfect weather. i don't know yet overall results but when I left I was 3rd TTOD with a 1:58 (118.xx) behind the 911 Design 997 RSR  and Steve Abbots Corvette. How did you do end up doing Cajundaddy?
