Any Old racing photos?

Hi all. In wandering around the net yesterday I came across a reference to Brooklands Raceway in England. It seems to have been the 'first purpose built' raceway. All well and good untill I found this photo of the course speed record holder. John Cobbs brought the Napier-Railton single seater around the outer circut at an AVERAGE speed of 143.44mph.

Here is a picture of him during that lap at about 130mph...all wheels off! Thats some driving!

And a picture of the car as it is today.

Share some if you have them.

No photos, but recently BBC America had a show on in which they set up the worlds longest slot car track on it, winding through homes and business retracing the old track. Most of the old track is now gone just bits and pieces.Very interesting show it went over most of the history of the track. :beerchug:

I've got a few old photos, some patches, posters, and books (One signed by Herbert LIinge, Dan Gurney, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, Hurley Haywood, and Saacha Maassen) in my collection. Love the vintage stuff! Thanks for sharing the old photo... I just printed a hard copy.

I thought this thread was cool, too. I read the article on a Sunday morning over a cup of coffee. Good stuff!

Just caught one of his shows Monday - he rebuilt a 7-mile stretch of the Atlantic Coast Express railway in England using 00-scale model trains and tracks. Bizarre and fun to watch! They had to lay 7 miles of model train tracks, then run the model trains from one end to the other, and tear down the tracks all in one day, since the old roadbed was a public path and crossed many public streets that had to be closed during parts of the event. The trains all died eventually en route, but when you consider they are about 1/76 scale, the last one finally died after running about 450 scale miles (about 6 real miles) - not too bad for a toy train.

Thanks, John. I'll look forward to that. Will you give us a "heads-up" here... Or should we just keep an eye on you blog?

Hey Larry...it's best to sign up for email updates on the blog, but I'll try to post something here about it.

I'm working on a post for next week about Hour Glass Field...used for sports car races '57-'59 and also used by the club for Autocrosses back in '77.

How about this for "Board Track" Racing?????

Wow. Is it like when Ricky Bobby drives with a cougar in his car?
