Tomorrow night (Tues)at 6:00 the San Diego City Council is considering putting a Homeless Shelter at the Q. This would seriously effect the running of our events and is not the best place for a 1000 different reasons. We need to marshal an effort to speak against this tomorrow night Tues 10/19. If you can make it to the meeting it is important to the club that this not be done. Unfortunately I will be out of town and I an also not a voter in San Diego so my thoughts would hold little import with the Council.

SAN DIEGO - The City Council again today was unable to agree on a location for a temporary winter homeless shelter in San Diego.
The City Council convened a special evening meeting to consider putting the 220-bed shelter at Qualcomm Stadium or a parking lot near the Balboa Naval Hospital in Balboa Park.
Unable to reach consensus, the City Council voted 7-1 to reconvene Friday morning, when it will consider more than dozen sites, including those they have already dismissed. City Council President Ben Hueso, who proposed the Balboa Park location, cast the lone dissenting vote.
A site in downtown's East Village at F and 13th streets was rejected last week by the City Council. In September, the City Council also delayed a decision on where to put the homeless shelter.
The tent structure is supposed to serve the homeless from November through March.
The location of the winter homeless shelter, which has been set up in the East Village for the past three years, has sparked an annual outcry from residents to move it elsewhere.

If my memory is serving me well, 13th and F was the site of the old Import Tire shop downtown, which the city bought from Joe and Don last year.

East Village has hosted the shelter for the last few years. Even though I've worked in that area for many years, and don't love the mess and crime it creates, it is logical to keep it where many of the free food missions are centered.

Call Billy Wampler - he could get us a lot of inexpensive corner workers!

What I do know is that the Stadium does not want the shelter there. It would also not be good for the people in the area except the ones living in the river bed.
