1/11/2005 - With the compilation of all the stats from the 2004 season, who came out on top as the most successful sportscar manufacturer in North America? TheRaceSite.com has compiled an exclusive report detailing out what drivers, teams, and manufacturers are the most successful across all forms of professional sportscar racing in North America.
For this report we have included ALMS, Grand Am, World Challenge, Trans Am, and the Grand Am Cup.

The goal of this exercise is to determine who, statistically speaking, was the best Manufacturer in sportscar racing in North America? In the end the stats show a resounding dominance by one marque in the sport. This marque has been a dominant part of the landscape for decades and will likely continue with that strength. With a championship in the Grand Am Rolex SGS class, Grand Am Cup GS class, and the American Le Mans Series GT class, Porsche was the most dominant car in the sport.

While I like the numbers, aren't several of those classes Porsche only? Or at least 99% Porsche like GrandAm SGS and GS? Wow, Porsche dominates 944 spec yet again - yippie? They even win virtually every class for the year end trophies in PCA, wow what a company:?

They got toasted by big money in World Challenge and ALMS, though these days, almost all classes are spec classes, so if you win a lot, it just means the rule makers screwed up and they will add weight or take HP or something so it doesn't happen again. Too bad there are no real stock series that I know of that could campare the various cars under race conditions. Unfortunately, only the winning company would like that and the others would leave the series :roll:

Even F1 and Ferrari are on the verge of this problem, so in the not too distant future, I fear NASCAR sticker headlights per brand will be the distinguishing feature of many series. Maybe money does corrupt all :twisted:
