Car cover recommnedation?

Can somebody recommend a source for a custom car cover?

I am interested in getting a durable exterior cover for my race car that has to fit over the 993 widebody and the rear wing. It may have to be measured, and so if there's a local dealer it would be an advantage. Or maybe someone here has already gotten one to fit those kinds of cars and has a contact.

I thought that we had a car cover company in San Diego that used to advertise in the Witness, but don't have my Witness handy.

Are you thinking of Coast Car Covers down on Morena Blvd. maybe? I think they used to advertise in the WW.

I just bought a cheap cover that I think would fit your car off evilbay for $60 from CSC Sport. It's a 4-layer, laminated fabric one for a '74-89 911 w/ whale tail. Supposedly 100% waterproof yet "breathable." They also have a 5-layer product for $75 that is for the same series car. They shipped super-promptly and it got here in a few days because they're in CA, which unfortunately also means you have to pay sales tax. I think the "whale tail" bulge in the rear will help it fit w/ your upper wing element mounted, but it would probably hike it up in the rear a bit much and maybe not cover the bumper and rear wheels well? You'd probably need a custom job to really fit perfectly, but if you want to try this one out on your car, come on over and borrow it for a test fit.

BTW, the company I told you about at the AX that might have the SS buttonhead machine screws you needed is Maryland Metric. A "senior moment" prevented me from remembering the name when we were talking about it, so I looked it up when I got home.

HTH,

Coast is out of business and I don't think there are any local companies. I just bought a custom cover for my new (to me) car from Super Covers on line. They carry Covercraft who made the coast covers.

Tom, I have you fitted the cover to a whale tale SC/Carrera yet? If so, what's the feedback. The Ebay posting doesn't seem to describe the product as you have.

Most economical is to buy a high quality cover (Stock 993TT) and have him modify it to accept the huge 747 rear high mounted wing you have.

Ya, the 4-layer one fits a '74 w/ RS flares and whale tail--basically the same dimensions as SC/Carrera, and that's the one I bought. The 5-layer one just says "'73-77 911 w/ whaletail, but I think that's just the description and it's really the same pattern. There's only a couple inches difference in the width of the rear flares between those cars and the SC/Carrera bodies, and if anything, these covers are cut very generous (loose)and not really tightly "form-fitting." They depend on straps to keep them on in a wind, and not the elastic borders clinging to the corners of the car. They're more generic than custom, if you know what I mean, but not bad for the money. Go to the seller's store and search all the Porsche model covers--there's only a few different types, really, with a couple of fabric choices.
