As PCASDR prepares to wrap up yet another successful year, the Club is looking to fill the position of Autocross Equipment Chair for the upcoming 2011 season. The 2010 season saw multiple hats and bodies being thrown at the position and while the significant duties were accomplished throughout the year, the Club would really benefit from one point man being assigned to this chair position.

The duties involved are straightforward and fairly simple. The time required of the position is on average 4 hours each month in which an autocross is scheduled (we are looking forward to holding 8 of these events next season).

Additionally, James Hicks was a significant help to our equipment team this year by ensuring the radios remained charged before each event and in picking up the trailer. He has again volunteered his part time assistance for the 2011 season.

Oh yes, almost forgot. This position also offers free lessons that will not only teach you to be a better driver but will in fact give you no other choice in the matter. The driving skills you will perfect won't likely make you any faster on the track but they will surely advance your ability to:

- brake early (the loaded trailer is approx. 12,000 pounds after all);
- set up for a turn (the truck with trailer is about 3-4 times the length of your Porsche);
- understand vehicle dynamics (did I mention that the trailer is heavy?);
- plan your most efficient route ahead of time (the trailer is stored less than 3 miles from the stadium).

If you've been looking for a way to become more involved with PCA and give back to a club that provides so many benefits to its members, the Autocross Equipment Chair position is a great entry-level way of contributing.

Interested parties are welcomed to email equipment@pcasdr.org or call me at 619.807.8802.

Cheers,

Matt

Thank you Jim Hicks for continuing on with the Equipment team.

Thank you Matt Sparks for all you have done for the club on the Equipment team.

We (the club) need a volunteer to replace Matt.
We are planning on having only 8 autocrosses this year so the time involved is quite less than in past years. :rockon:

Most of us have heard this before, but the club cannot function without volunteers and volunteers are needed for us to continue as we do.

For club members that are not already involved with a committee, please consider this position and the contribution it makes to the club.
Ideally the club needs two more members for the Equipment team. The December AX is a good time to learn what’s needed for next year.

Please call Matt at his number listed above, or me at 619-417-2124 to let us know if you can help the club. :)

Well, I've been perched solidly on the fence for months about to volunteer for this. I guess I might as well step up and go for it.

I wonder about that 8 events though. Doesn't the equipment trailer make an appearance at several other events during the year, like the PDS? Or is that someone else's job?

Anyway, sign me up! (Sending email to equipment@pcasdr.org right now to make it official.)

Way to go, Mike! Thanks from all of us who enjoy AX events at the Q for making this vital contribution to the club. I'm sure the other chairs can answer all your questions about the specific duties and logistics involved.
