Very Valid question Kim. We were told to set 4 AX's and went to bat for the best dates we could get.

Here is the skinny, We needed to block out the PDS weekend as a high priority the other 3 groups had similar events so we got that set first. One of the other groups needed the one Feb. weekend that was open, so we let that go as a trade-off. The rest of Feb was taken with Super bowl, and driver awards dinner, an Auto Swapmeet, and Supercross. In March we booked the PDS, then there is a PCA DE at Fontana on a Friday (two instructor intensive events), the SCCA needed a full weekend, and there is a RV Sale...thus the whole month was set. Which brings us to April, SCCA nationals took a weekend. the Cal, Fest of Speed took a 3 day weekend. Karts needed one and we took the 23rd. Add to that whole mix, Easter weekend, Mother's Day and Father's Day.

All in all we were able to book the amount of events we wanted, and we even have some spare dates blocked as options just in case. If you (or anyone else) has specific questions feel free to drop me a note as I am happy to chat with you (or whomever) about the process. :beerchug:

Mark, your PDS date seems relatively early, compared to past years. It is especially early considering it is the weekend before daylight savings. Have the CDI's weighed in?

No Don they havn't. Unfortunatly the only other later weekends open would be (in order of dates that were available) April 23-24 Easter weekend, May 5-6 Mother's day weekend, or June 25-26th which would be really late...and...HOT. lol All of which seemed like poorer choices than having it a bit early. As Jerry said though this is all subject to board (and therefore CDI approval).

Thanks, Mark/Jerry. I understand that you take what you can get. I've been to a couple of those Q-meetings and know how it goes.

Good job Jerry and Mark in holding off the other car clubs from taking the good dates.

All: We took the schedule of available weekends the stadium had open for the car clubs. We then marked down all the Orange County AX's, the GPX 2 day event at the Fairplex grounds, our DE's and TT's, Festival of Speed and the Long Beach Gran Prix. We also looked at other clubs calendars but except for the 2 clubs mentioned, they haven't posted theirs yet.

We tried to NOT schedule an AX the same day/weekend as Orange County and try to keep our AX's at least 2 weeks away from our DE's and TT's so as to not burn out our instructors and not cannabalize our own event attendance. Jerry and Mark were able to accomplish most all of this!

The PDS is earlier than we wanted but their wasn't much choice. :banghead:

Jerry and Mark were also able to reserve Sat. Feb. 12 - Southeast lot (Orange Co. also has an AX this date) and Sat. June 25 but this is the weekend of the GPX AX & DE.

Maybe the board will say 5 AX's are OK and maybe add Feb. 12, there are plenty of Orange County AX's that don't conflict with our dates so folks can try out the Orange County venue and get their AX "fix".

So, until final board approval (Jan. 5 meeting) the driving schedule might look like:
January 15 AX.
Feb. 12 AX ??
March 5-6 PDS
April 23 AX(Day before Easter)
May 7 AX(Day before Mothers day)
June 4 AX

Bill,

I left my notes at the office, but to my memory we also reserved April 30 as an "in case" date. West lot. I am in favor of saving that in case we get bumped by a football game or rain flooded etc.

Considering the attendance at AX's over the last two years, and the cost/income ratios that sub-100 participant events create (revenue loss?) I'd say less is more. Less AX's = more attendance at the scheduled events. More income per event vs. outlay.

Smart move, guys. Keep the market a little lean, and you have a better potential for avoiding loss. Just ask DeBeers. They sell far less diamonds per year than they mine.

For those that are really horny for track-time, there's OCR, GPR, and other local events. Plus, someone could always organize a non-PCA sanctioned driving day at Streets or WSIR during the week. You can get an annual pass and pay under $200.00 a day for unlimited fun. I think Gagen could tell you more about that.

I would like to thank you for your carefull and methodical consideration of dates. You fought a good fight! I think the red shirt intimidated the other clubs. The CDI team will work hard to make these PDS dates successful. we just have to get to work a little sooner. we get together friday so any helpfull comments will be considered.

El toro air strip is fun, easy drive, less pot holes to dodge. the OC group is a different crowd.
