There is 2+ feet of muddy water sitting on the lot...er...racetrack, so it might be a little dirty for the Jan AX (you may want to fit knobbys instead of Hoosiers for this event )
However, Keith has graciously offered his car to the safety chairs to run a whole bunch of laps in the morning so the "air cooler" can blow most if it off the line

The real bummer is going to be seen 6 months from now, when all the new cracks and potholes appear from this saturation. The clay-soils under the asphalt will swell, causing cracking and a non-conformity of the surface, which will equate to potholes, "gator" cracking, and more surface damage. If you think it was bad before ...

Anyone running 18" or larger diameter wheels may want to get a set of Steel Wheels for future AX events at the Q. Alloy wheels will be experiencing lots of "bendy-bendy." I'm going to run 15" Fuchs with 205/95/15's to avoid rim damage. I can run the Paris-Dakkar afterwords.

Finally, a voice of reason.

I've said for years that a $4.00 (OK, maybe $4.95 now) bag of cold-patch from Home Depot every time we AX would fill in the problems over time. The comments from some were "Cold-Patch isn't durable enough and will break up after a few years." Well, I fixed bumps in the old alley at the beach with $9.00 worth of cold patch in 2004. Guess what, the patch is still there. Likely the cold-patch will last longer than the 45-year old asphalt that is presently there in Mission Valley ... at last until they tear down the Q in 2015.

For the cost of a Tuna Sandwich from the catering truck we could fill a 2' X 2' hole in the Q lot. Put another way, what's your 17" alloy rims worth? $4.00 and a little sweat? More?

If everyone brought down 1 $4.00 bag of cold-patch ....

If you are going to use cold patch asphalt, I will try and remember to bring my tamper with me Saturday morning to help pack it down. A sledgehammer will work ok for small spots. A torch can also be helpful to make the stuff more pliant in the cold.
