2005 rules explained

Postby Steve Grosekemper on Mon Jan 17, 2005 8:13 am

There are changes to the 2005 rules that all drivers need to be aware of ASAP

Go to the rules page and about 1/3 of the way down you will find

2005 rules in plain english!

http://www.pcasdr.org/tech/rules.html

This is where I have outlined all the major rules changes for 2005, so you don't have to read the entire 30 page booklet.
After reading this, download the registration form
http://www.pcasdr.org/forms/AXRegForm.pdf
and find your new class.

Thanks, Steve! You've put a lot of time and effort into this. The explanations are a great help. Thanks. (...... helps me swallow the GP class step-up better :? )

Thanks again for all you've done. I can't wait to start on 2006 Rules recommendeations   .

First, let me make it clear that this post is not a protest. It is merely a question in an attempt to educate myself.

1) I did not see any mention of the "Sport Chrono" option that is available on the 9x7's. Does this factory option get assesed points? Move the car up a class? Or are we going to wait and see how this option fairs on the track before attempting to penalize it?

2) The LSD rule only mentions Quaife as the aftermarket diff. So if I have a Guard LSD does that mean I don't have to take the 2 points? It's not going to get me back into S, but it may just keep me out of I for bit longer. And running against Kary is a scary thought  .

Mike,

As I understand the new rule, unless LSD was "standard equipment" on that particular model, you pay 2 points. And there were very few P-car models that came with LSD as "standard equipment". Carl

Mike:

Here's the exact (cut and paste) quote from the rules page:

"Limited slip differential or “Quaife” type unit that was not standard on the car. This includes “optional equipment” or after market limited slip differential or “Quaife” is assigned 2-points."

So, I'm interpreting the words "type unit" here to mean any non-Porsche limited slip or torque biasing differential that is installed after the car was built. I have a GT differential (torque-biasing), and I'm taking two points. (The 1 to 2 seconds of improved times I'm hoping for justifies my moving to another class  ).

I'm also interpreting "was not standard on the car" as being the other clincher. As an example, Jad's '88 Turbo S had the limited slip diff. installed at the factory. Factory installed. Standard on the car. So, lucky-boy Jad sees no points for his diff. Mine was put in "outside the Factory" as it were, so not factory isntalled. Not standard factory equipment  . 2 points for me  . I'm thinking ..... 2-points for a lot of people in 2005.

Yeah, you guys are right. But always looking for that loophole. Heck, I couldn't be expected to actually *drive* faster than my competitors, could I?

I don't see the following on the form:
http://www.pcasdr.org/forms/AXRegForm.pdf

A. STREET STOCK CLASSES (0-2) Points
Any car having 0-2 Points inclusively (as determined from the following points list).
The following modifications are not allowed in Street Stock:

1. Modification or Removal of catalytic converter
2. Modification or replacement of factory airbox or filter to increase flow
3. Headers
4. After-market adjustable shock absorbers
5. Aftermarket Mass airflow kits
6. DME chips - in some cases modification to require 100+ octane fuel
7. Lightweight flywheels
8. Stripped out interiors, and/or redistribution of weight
9. Any change which makes the car not street-legal in the state which it is registered

Sure it is. Right at the top of page 2 there's:

*** It is your responsibility to properly classify your car ***
A complete copy of Region & Zone rules are available online or at the registration trailer

There are 30 pages of rules that you are probably not going to want to print out every event. That is why the single page (2 sided) tech sheet has all the information that 90% of people need and for those who need more....can find it on the web or trailer depending on your location.

Every year there is more to add to that sheet, (over 100 changes this year) and there is no way to answer every question. But we try!
