New 911 GTS worth the extra cost?

I have a non-PCA acquaintance who is considering buying one of the new 911 GTS models and he is struggling with the idea of whether it is worth the premium on the price. I gave him my opinion, but would like to hear what other members think.

Any feedback welcome.

I don't think anyone can answer that for him. If he is Bill Gates, the money is meaningless, buy the best. If he is asking the question, he probably wants and can afford the GTS, just wants someone to confirm his desires otherwise he will feel second rate in his non-GTS 911. Logically, it is really pretty hard to justify as any new car, let alone a Porsche 911 really being 'worth it'. If you want it, can afford it, and will enjoy it more, buy it would be answer 8)

If money was no object, then the 918 and GT2 RS would be on MY shortlist for the street, with a 997 Cup for the track days, but I'm not Bill Gates. :banghead:

Ya, for me, that first year depreciation is pretty hard to stomach on a new car, and that would effect my enjoyment of it. They're shiny, pretty, and smell good when they're new, though. :D

All the GTS has going for it really is the wide-body and some tuning on the 3.8L engine, right, along with a little more "exclusivity" because fewer will be made? Not that much different from a Carrera S? There's about a $13K difference in price, but the dealers are willing to discount about $5K more for the S, making it about $18K in reality.
