THAT was a great event that showcased our club's ability to handle huge crowds.......no matter how many members show up. We were done AND picked up by 4:30PM. 119 drivers? Simply awesome planning and execution, people. :D :D :D
Pile on with the comments.......

Wonderful day everyone! I simply MUST give props to the BIGGEST Friday set up crew in 2 years! We had 10...12? Things went so well and fast wewere done in about an hour and had time to patch holes. You all rocked!

Thanks to everyone who helped to put on a great AX! Wonderful SoCal weather. A great track layout, lots of great people and cars. The Tesla cars were cool to see and kind of spooky when they drove the track with hardly any sound. Here's a video with overlay from my final timed run of the day.

+1. With members who weren't even driving showing up to help with instructing and working, like Tim and John Straub, the event ran fairly flawlessly despite the high entry level. The track design was fast and fun--I was in 3rd gear on four segments of the track in my car, which is quite unusual. Twelve laps and finishing before dark even in the dead of winter is very much possible if every effort is made to keep on schedule and maximize track time.

I would have to add one other requirement to keeping everything running smoothly that wasn't mentioned in the previous commentary on the subject, and that is having everyone show up as early as possible to tech inspection. We had a great tech crew on hand yesterday, and everything went fairly smoothly, but we had some stragglers showing up after 8:00am, and while the excuses were somewhat valid for some and simply humorous for others, this does put a crimp on the day for some of the tech workers. I wasn't able to do a track walk before the start of the driver's meeting, for instance, which hindered my learning curve in the practice sessions. Just saying...the standing rule is that you must be in the tech line by 7:30am to avoid a $10 late fee, and tech is supposed to be closed at 8:00am--show up later and you are not supposed to be allowed to enter. We have been more than flexible with this in the past, but it does impinge on the workers.

Tom, +1 on the tech. It didn't seem to hinder your driving though. Great times!! I see you finally got some new tires.

That was a really fun track. I got some great drifting experience! I'm surprised nobody took out the timing lights with the slalom cone smack in the middle of the entry. I saw some close calls though.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen and the non drivers who came out to support and help!!! It was good to see all of you guys again.

Oh and let me warn you that UNTIL BUGS from MOTORSPORTS REG are FIXED, do check your car class, etc. :banghead:

Thanks, Mark! :beerchug:

Ya, I have only two words to explain my results yesterday: "Sticker tires!" :D Due to my Scottish heritage, I have been running on 5-6 year-old leftover rubber for 2 seasons now, practicing car control instead of sticking and going fast, and had almost forgotten what it is like. I have to admit that I spent almost 2/3s of one of my first Social Security checks on new V710s for Christmas. There is NOTHING like fresh rubber!

Unfortunately, it is only downhill from here for the rest of the season, as they heat-cycle out and get slower every event. :banghead: Hopefully. getting some synchros in my tranny may help make up some of the lost time when I can shift faster again.

The autocross team rocks! That was a great event, on a beautiful day. It was so well orchestrated that I can't imagine how it could have been better. Kudos to everyone who volunteered to make it a super start for the year.

Yes, I don't know what's wrong with Motorsports Reg or our software. I enter my class and car model in Motorsports Reg and at every event since November it shows my old car and old class in the computer. Shouldn't the Motorsport Reg export overwrite the computer? What's the point entering all this data if it doesn't get feed in to the timing computer correctly?
