DE & Time Trial Differences?

What are the differences between a DE and a Time Trial?

I get the feeling that the TT is more stringent in as far as safety equipment and are timed...what about passing regs?

I have done what are called DE's at Laguna Seca, Big and Little Willow and Road America... where my stock 3pt belts are A-OK.

I would love to come out and play at some of the big track events bt it seems that an ss class car is out of luck without 5pts etc.

Just curious :?:

DE and TT events are almost exactly the same (in PCASDR at least). The only difference between them is that the final session of the weekend at a TT is 3 laps only, 1 warm up and 2 timed flying laps. DEs have no timing and no competition. Typically our DEs are 1 day events and TTs are 2 days.

Check the post made by Dan Chambers in the "Question for Autocrossers" thread. Last year, newbies were allowed two DE events at the Q without 5-points. Maybe that will continue this year, so that you can try it out and see if you are willing to step up to more safety equipment? All the mods can be accomplished in such a way that your car can be taken back to stock easily, if that is a concern.

The conditions at the Q are such that off-track excursions are not as serious as at a big track, so I hope we can continue this policy to accomodate first-timers. When you are convinced you want to go to the big tracks, the $$$ for an extinguisher, 5-pts and a harness bar are not such a big investment. You don't need a roll bar in a coupe in SS class.
