964 Race Parts for sale

Postby Bob Gagnon on Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:32 pm

I sold my 964 Carrera Cup.

I placed an ad here http://ad2ad.com/?portalid=1001103 in the PCASDR classifieds for some 964 stuff I had left over (it is under "Parts" in drop down on left of page )

This is same stuff I advertised here earlier today, but found I was not supposed to do that.

Cheers, Bob Gagnon

Thanks for complying with the "for sale" policy on the forum, Bob. This link should take people right to the Parts for Sale section of the Classifieds.

Sorry to see your 964 Cup move on--it was one of my favorite 911s in the club. What's next for you?

Thanks for providing the correct link Tom.

I will miss my Cup, but it was time to move on. I was afraid to drive it anymore and have not done an autocross since the one after the Porsche Parade - so I was a victim of having a collectible car. And I wanted to do a project.

Until I get a chassis, I don't really know what is really next for me.

All I know so far is that I have the GT3 engine I am building now in my garage for it with Cup cams, individual throttle bodies, headers and Motec management and I have a new Supercup G50/32- 6 speed to go into it.

So, a water cooled Metzger and G50 6 speed + ?. Any ideas?

OMG! Have I got ideas? You betcha! How about a light early chassis converted to a widebody w/ water-cooling, ala John Payne's Killer Bee, or this car in AZ. With a pre-75 chassis it could even be street-legal.... :D

I am thinking something that would be good for autocross, but maybe have a touch more utility than the Cup for an occasional trip with the wifey - who, in my 18 years of ownership since new, rode in my Cup precisely one (1) time.

The maximum concession here would be air conditioning (I am conflicted here) - definitely no suntop, radio, cruise control, fancy seats or other weight adding creature comforts.

Just a bare boned, bucket seat, stripped interior car thank-you very much.

A street legal car for wifey???
R U sure you wouldn't like this?
Drop that motor and tranny into the Bee and that's what you'd have (at Willow big track!)

John, a 1:20.5 at willow springs is Hauling A$$!!! congradulations, that is a very impressive time

Bob, I'm not sure how far along you are on your build, do you know what intake manifold you have in mind for the ITB's?
This is what Porsche uses on there RSR engines with Individual Throttle Bodies. By looking at the exhaust on this engine looks like this came out of an early 997 RSR, 07' model.

Erik,
That intake is a work of art!
Re the 1:20.4, I wish I could take credit for that, but not now (or ever!). That was Kevin Roush driving the Bee, 2 seconds faster than my best lap!!!
Just wanted Bob G to see what could be accomplished with that motor he's building!

A friend of mine has a company that made that carbon fiber intake for Porsche R$R, so I know it.

I have a set of Jenvey manifolds and I plan on using either custom throttle bodies from Hargett or Jenvey Throttle bodies on top of them.

No resonance plenum as pictured.

I am going to fabricate my own throttle linkage similar to RSR with a center bell crank and 964 Turbo rear bell crank assembly.

For headers I plan on using a custom stainless fabrication using Burns collectors to a 997 GT3 center muffler.

A mid engine chassis would be great, particularly a Cayman, however the GT3 engine uses the 911 air-cooled crankcase and will not bolt up to a Boxster/Cayman gearbox.

Another issue is if it would bolt up the torque capacity may not be great enough.

The GT3 engine would bolt up to a 914/6 or 915 side shifter gearbox, but the engine is a touch too wide to clear the rear suspension of the 914/6 chassis.

That's what I need for my Cayman. :D

Yes, the Cayman is a great chassis once you upgraded the suspension and added an LSD, but the engine and electronics are a bit of a nightmare.

That RSR engine above is based on the GT3 engine and has more in common with a 911 air-cooled engine than a regular 911,Boxster or Cayman engine.

I wish Porsche would stop addressing the 911 as a sports car, call it their GT car and let the Cayman blossom into the sports car role for the company.

A Cayman with GT3 engine and gearbox quality is my dream - it doesn't even have to have the horsepower, just the engine, chassis and gearbox DNA of the GT3 to be cool.
