Car Classification

I have been reading the threads on the new classification system and the discussion of tire points. Frankly I'm getting more and more confused to the point of getting a headache. :?

I'd like to classify a car but I don't know what rules are current or relevant and could use some help.

The car is a 1988 944 with automatic transmission. The engine is stock. The wheels are 15" phone dials with 225-50 Falken Azenis (don't know the tread wear rating asthe car is out of town) They're DOT but is there a point penalty for their size?

Suspension is lowered with shorter front struts, 220 lb springs and Bilstein rear shocks. There does not appear to be any spindle to fender clearance issue. Are there penalty points for these modifications?

It has an Autopower roll bar and 5-points on both passenger and driver positions. It has stock seats. To run in TT does it have to have seats with holes for the shoulder belts and for the anti-submarine strap? If it runs TT does it need window nets and a net below the sunroof?
I think its a GS car or whatever the new class is :?:

I’ll take a swing at it Ted. If I miss something or mess up I am sure someone will jump in.
For AX we are still under the old classification. Based on your description the car would run in GSS only having to take 2 points for the springs.
Roll bar, and tires of that size are free, though tredwear could add points when you find it out.
Even in AX a halo device for the harness set up is not permitted, so you would need a seat with the holes for the shoulders and anti-sub strap or run the stock seatbelts.
No netting is required on this car

TT is on the new classification system. To try and help you track it I am including the pages from the 2012 rules where you can find it.

1988 944 has a base points of 200, (page 52)
Though it seems strange to me there is no point change positively or negatively for the automatic transmission.
Your harness issue is the same here as with AX, but you can use the stock seatbelt. (page 39)
You will need to have a fire extinguisher mounted though. (page 39)
Springs will add 20 points (page 20)
It sounds like your shocks and struts are not the remote reservoir types and the lowering didn’t require welding so they are free. (page 20)
The tire size you have takes 20 points for front and 20 for rear, so a total of 40 points there. Again tredwear could add points here as well so you will need to find out what it is. (page 18)
No netting is required on this car.
Your tally would then be:
Base points 200
Modification Points 20
Tire points 40
Total Points 260

Welcome to CC15! (page 14)
The Class I run in! :beerchug:

See you at the track!
Mark

Falken Azenis are 200 treadwear rating, so it would have no point penalty for tire compound under either 2011 or 2012 rules for AX or TT at this point in time. It would have the 40 point penalty for size under the TT rules, but no size penalty for AX this year under the Zone 8 rules. Next year, when AX and TT classes use the same classification scheme, it would.

TT

TIRE UPDATE

The driver tells me that the tires are actually Falken Ziex 512, 225/50R 15, 360-A-A-91V

That sounds even less competitive

Jerry,

I forget did those seats have a sub belt hole?
