POC red race

Postby Jad on Tue Jun 07, 2011 8:35 am

Here is a video of me trying to keep up with a new cup car, GT3 and spec Cayman with my old mis-matched tires at the end of a weekend that things just didn't click. I will try to overlay the gauges later, my first attempt had a synch issue.

Glad the blowout was on the infield.. :beerchug:

The new cup cars have no ABS correct? Reminded me of the race I saw at Fontana between a new CUP (no ABS) and a 996 cup with ABS, new cup would pull away but get reeled in on braking.

Great video Jad. Too bad about the tire blow, you seemed to be doing well. This happened to me at PIR last year, all the prep work that goes into a race and not finishing the race $uck$, I know.

The good thing you brought it all home in one piece.

Was that Duane S. in front of you with the Black Cayman Spec? If so his car changed a quite bit since I saw it last :D

Martin,
Yes it is. I recognized the car and number. And yes, it has changed substantially!

Jad,

I always enjoy watching your videos as you out brake the other cars.

Last year's Laguna Seca video was especially great to watch. Your braking before the corkscrew sure helped you in your "momentum" car to keep in the race with those horsepower cars.

Thanks, I glad you like the videos.

I seemed to have gone from a golden set of Hoosier R6's that lasted about 40 heat cycles to a ^&$$&%^# set that never worked at all.

Talking to the Hoosier dealer, he 'claims' that the Chuckwalla track is too new and you can't get heat into sticker tires so they won't cure properly. I don't know if this is a sales pitch covering BAD tires or true. Doesn't make sense, but the tires clearly were terrible. The car was almost un-drivable at Fontana. I was 2 seconds slower than usual, driving more on the ragged edge. It was not fun.

I ended up putting old front tires from Dave's 993 on the back of our 996 just to try slicks for the first time, even though they were only 265's. Brought the car back to drivable and seem to be doing fine until the sidewall simply blew out on the inside of the passenger tire after about 8 laps. I am just very lucky that it happened at 120 mph on the infield, instead of at 150 going into 1. They had the right pressure and didn't seem to be overheated at all. I have since heard several similar stories of the Hoosier slicks blowing for no reason, so I think I will be sticking with DOT tires.

So, with this set of tires, I need to take my class as these 'lasted' 10 heat cycles at best :banghead: and were at least 2 seconds slower than they should be. :banghead:

Here's video of the Orange race, finally figured out how to ad data to the video

Had to race with some of teh faster V3/R5 cars
Amazing how much momentum those cars could carry through T5 and T6.
