AX Predictions?

Any predictions for the first 2005 Autocross?

I predict that half of the field will mis-classify their cars -- Ha! just kidding.

Actually, my prediction is that Martin and Bill will blow up their cars trying to beat each other in heated practice runs, leading me to a class victory over a distressed Marguglio who thought he could do better with three year old Kuhmo Supra 712's on his car. Meanwhile, everyone will wonder when Jad is going to run in KP. Burl will whine.

As Steve pointed out in an earlier thread, my car is 0.6 seconds faster this year.

Bob, actually you are probably not far off on this prediction. There are many people who messed up their car classification at the time trial. It will be some time before it is straighten out. Just remember, if you sign up in a class before a timed run, then that is the class you are in after the timed run....at least those use to be the rules for auto-x and ought to be the rules for time trialing.

ummm...

At a time trial you sign up in the morning and it is not posted anywhere, so that it can be checked before timed runs. A freind of mine turned in his sheet for AM class and was put in X for some reason, (not even close). If it is entered on the reg sheet as AM for example, timed runs or not, thats the class you are in.

Yes I agree, though there were others that entered the wrong class on the sheet and then asked to be in yet another class.

Don't discount the possibility that anyone can actually ask the registration or timing guy for the car classification.

Why not post the class sheet so all can see in one place, instead of having to hunt them down?. This is what is done for AX, correct?

Just a thought.

No more talk about Martin blowing up his car, he still has his 986 and us LSS guys don't want him back.

Did you not get an envelope when you registered that had your name, car number and classification on the outside?

I predict there will be very few cars in the SS classes below M, and that I will be giving away the BRI "Polished Dolphin" trophy to someone else for the last time. Since I will be running in GS with street tires, I don't ever expect to see it again.

Street tires? What happened to the R-compound threat? I figured you'd be on RA-1's or Victoracers, and mopping up the 944's with >6-second-better times. Oh well. Still, no 944n/a will ever catch a 911 in G class with the current conditions and rules in place. SIL (Such is Life).

As to the Dolphin Award, don't discount your chances too quickly. The new rules affect everyone. You may be closer than you realize.

Nah, I couldn't see spending the money when I've still got lots of tread left from last year on the Falkens. :(

Without improving the car to the GS limit, I am cooked, Dan. My BRI index goes from .99 to 1.015, and if I go the same speed as last year, with the same setup and a higher index, I would never have placed any higher than 4th, and several times would have been out of the top 10. I need to go 2.5 seconds faster in a 100-second lap to stay competitive. That's not going to happen without some Kumhos or Hoosiers.
