Isabella and I saw it up in Orange County today.... couldn't wait for the SD debut next week so we planned out a road trip.
What a great documentary and a "Must See" if you're a Formula 1 fan!! The sights and sounds were fantastic and the behind the scenes footage of the politics that goes on in the driver's meetings were surreal.
The film is 1 hr and 45 minutes, but I could have watched 6 hours of it as it seemed "rushed" as they pick up the story of Aryton Senna from the time he leaves Brazil to start karting in Europe to his debut in F1 followed by his battles on and off the track with Alain Prost and the FIA. The film also brought to light what the average F1 fan might not have seen from the outside looking in and that was the absolute pressure he seemed to place on himself to not only win a race, but his world championships and more importantly to him, his home grand prix infront of his adoring fans. Once he had expended all the energy he could and acheive the goal set in front of him, whether a certain race or World Driving Championship, would this weight be magically lifted from his shoulders.
A hyper focused and determined competitor on the track to the charismatic, humble, God fearing man off the track, Senna shows the many sides of this man.
Finally, the footage shot inside the Williams Renault garage during the ill fated weekend at Imola in 1994 during the Friday practice, Saturday qualifying and finally during Sunday's race was nothing sort of eerie given you know how it all ends. You simply have to watch it unfold and the struggle he has with himself given the carnage that took place that weekend before the race and wonder what is going on inside his mind.
