Anybody taking video at Willow?

Postby Dave Diamond on Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:12 pm

Looks like I can't make if after all. Anybody taking video so the rest of us can live vicariously?

Naw! That car has become sort of a dual purpose, road car/rally car now. Especially during timed runs.
Another great weekend at a great track. Videos are sure to follow.

That is a complete exaggeration of the truth!
We were clean all weekend until timed runs.
(Then we made up for it all in one session)
But we have excuses: (These are mine)

-There was a wicked cross wind in 8 that blew me way off line (actual truth)
-Jad said that new line would work (also truth)
-We used up all the good tires and had to use a miss matched set. (again truth)
-Tire pressures were off (probably not)
-I hit a patch of left over oil dry (possible fabrication)
-Didn't have enough wing in the car. (possibility)
-Ran out of talent micro-seconds before running out of track (truth)

I am sure Greg will have his own list starting with how I destroyed the only good set of front tires we had left leaving him with the "second string" set.
(Truth-Sorry about that Greg)

But it was a great weekend and we drove it on the trailer with no more damage than a detail and new set of tire won't cure.

Yes Steve, the line through 8-9 can work, but not necessarily WILL work.

Great event, too bad the weather wasn't great, so times suffered.

Thanks for posting times so quickly and running the event so well Jack and Robert.

Based on my data system, the intake temp was 104, compared to 70 the last time we were there which cost us nearly 10 mph on the front straight. The grip levels and surface seemed really similar, just very black so there are NO markers. Those handy skid marks that use to be used for braking and turn-in are gone

I will try to post video soon.

Jad, Great driving! TTOD, 1st in class and 1st in BRI. A 1:29.xx in less than ideal conditions (heat and wind) is really flying.

Steve, Thanks for the ride along. Sorry I didn't scream like one of your other passengers.

I hope to get some video up in a couple of days. I know there's some video of me passing a GT3 on the outside of 9... in the dirt

sounds like there was a spectacular off in timed runs tho...just saying'

seriously thanks to all the organizers for a great and fun weekend. I learned what fast driving is about and how I am not doing it.

There is no need to worry about the onset of turn 8 with Steve... it is just how he exits turn 8 at times that can be very worrisome :roflmao:

Thanks Mark, a little sleep and you become very complimentary!

Here are some sights from the Yellow run group.

We start with a chase cam of Bill Ripka taking Daisey through 8&9:

Here is my best lap of the weekend in Tuffy. A 1:43:89 I am chasing Paul R in his 944 Spec:

Finally a real doozy. A "Days of Thunder" with cars barely slipping past each other through billows of smoke and dust:

Here is a video of me driving in the orange group on Sunday morning. I think it may give some ideas of alternate lines to try as some were quite different than mine. I think most of the orange group drivers should be somewhere in the 17 minute video. I will try to post my timed runs video once it uploads where I am pushing much harder and driving a better line.

Oh, and I ran out of gas at the end  It still ran, but not in 9!

Monte,
Those screams quickly became giggles so I knew you were OK... "E" ticket ride we like to say.
That was the most fun session of the weekend for me.
I just wish I had video of your face... that would have been classic.

I will save you a spot in the right seat at Button Willow.

Steve!
Thanks again for the ride. You really drive the crap outta that car. I could not believe how much speed you carried thru those turns. After I realized I was still alive after the 1st few laps I was laughing. :roflmao: :beerchug:

It seems like you passed everybody except me. I was either hiding behind the pit wall or you went by me so fast that I looked like a blue cone again.
