A question about motor mounts.

Postby Mmagus on Sat Nov 05, 2011 6:52 pm

As noted in the other thread Tuffy is getting a refreshing and part of that is new motor mounts. When I look a Pelican I see the 951-375-042-04-OEM has a description that reads "Engine Mount (2 per car, sold individually), 2 year warranty" and a cost of $221.25. So am I understanding correctly that as set will be $442.50?

This leads to another question or two. Why would I not just buy the Billet Aluminum Super Mount, Pair, 924S/944/968 listed there? A set is $270 and they have a lifetime warranty. Anyone have experience with these?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Since I need new motor mounts as well, I have been doing the same research. I was able to take a ride in a 944 that had the solid aluminum mounts and what a difference. I will not be running these in my 924 as the amount of vibration is unacceptable for the amount of street driving I do. Tuffy may be a different story as it sounds like she's close to being put into service as a dedicated track car. I'll check around in my spare parts drawers and see it I have any other items you might be able to use.

Thanks Mark,

I appreciate you taking a peek, and the thoughts.

Fortunately the mounts I listed are not solid. At least it doesn't read that way to me as the descriptions says they have "elastomeric inserts that provides vibration isolation,". I wouldn't want the multiplied vibration factor of the solids even in a dedicated track car lol

Looks like Tuffy may be out the rest of the season.

Good info Mark. I just might switch to that set of motor mounts if they work out well for you (nice price point). Keep me posted how your refresh project goes.

I don't know if there is a reason why these wouldn't work but the $34 or $48 mounts seem like a good deal.

The season is only one more event -- will the car be ready for 2012?

Because every 944 guru/re-builder/mechanic I have spoken with says that while the cheap ones do indeed fit, they only last between 6 months to a year before failing. They all say, but the expensive ones and don't look back.

I bought an eBay set for ~$80 three years ago, with no issues. At least 30 events, since it's strictly a track car. They may wear out quick on a street car, but I have to yank the cross member to do rod bearings next year anyway...
