I need suggestions for race seats that are wider than the Sparco Evo 1 for my 1986 944T. They will need to be comfortable enough for street use, as well. Thanks! Bob

Hey Bob - great to hear from you!
A number of racing shells come in wider widths in addition to the standard.
For Recaro, they have some XL models which are 25-35mm wider (~430mm versus 395mm, for instance).
Sparco has some designated "Plus", like their "Evolution 2 Plus", and some come in three sizes like the Evo (Evo, Evo-L and Evo-XL).
In one car I have the Recaro Pro Racer XL, and in the other a Cobra Evolution Pro GT (the GT is their designation for 25mm extra width).
These two are very supportive, but have more restricted access and blind-spot visibility. Each one is the wider version of their standard seat.
As a passenger seat in one of my cars I have a Recaro Pole Position. While not as supportive, it does well, and allows easy access.
And, the Pole Position is already 25mm wider than their usual seat width (430mm). This might be the best compromise of comfort and all-out support.
Ideally, you'd get to try them out, but even in the Reno area there are probably few (if any) dealers stocking such items.
I tried some out in other club members' cars to get an idea, so if you're not in too big a hurry, that might help out.
Good luck, and let us know how it's going!

Bob,
I think Paul nailed it, but I would add that the Recaro Pole Position is extremely comfortable and works well on the street for a non-reclining seat.
If you come over to CFOS, I am sure you can try out many seats to see what you like.

Thanks so much, Paul and Chuck. The Evo2 Plus fits me fine, but I've been told that they will not fit into a 944. I'll do some measuring... I'm heading to the race shop at Infineon next week and will check out the seats there. On a sad note, I won't be able to make the CFOS this year due to a hard fall while "hot dogging" on the ski slope at Mt. Rose..... No broken bones, and my arm is getting better, but not enough to make turns......
I'm looking forward to seeing you at the Parade this summer. I'm taking a friend....(:
Best regards,
Bob

Bob,
I had troulbe finding a seat to fit my 951 and wound up with a Ultra shield aluminum seat and I had to a bit of bending to get it to fit. It is comfortable enough but not great. I would suggest giving Dwain Dement a call up at Vision Motorsports. He might be able to give you an idea of what won't fit. You sure don't want to pay for some good seats and have them shipped and find they do not fit. Sorry about your injury.

I have Cobra Halo seats in mine.
They fit.....barely.
However, they are definitely "no compromise" race seats. Perfect on the track, miserable on the street.

Thanks for your thoughtful replies! Jad, I love the GT3RS. It was nice to see a photo of it above the great article by Michael Harris on the Monterey weekend.

Me too, Bob, that's one of my favorite modern Porsches! I'm looking for the proper "jealousy" emoticon to use here, but the closest I can find is this green smiley, which is at least the proper color for portraying envy.
There's an orange one for sale in AZ right now and I have to keep grabbing my hand and restraining it whenever it tries to email the owner, like Dr. Strangelove in the Stanley Kubrick movie.
I sure miss seeing you at our SDR events,
TT

It is so nice to be in contact, Tom! I too miss our conversations at SDR events. The TTs are simply the best track events I've participated in. I hope to be at CFOS, or an SDR TT in the future.
Best always,
Bob
