Probably best not to post the dates before the board has a chance to consider them.

We already have an event scheduled for July 28 :banghead:

I would normally say that we could move the Tech Session but this is a big launch of new car from a good sponsor.

The July 28 (conflict with Boxster Tech session) and Aug. 31 (evening) dates were not approved.
The remaining dates are:
Sat. July 7 West Lot
Sat. Aug. 11 SE Lot
Sat. Sept. 1 Labor Day Weekend
Sat & Sun- Oct. 20 & 21 PDS
Sat. Nov. 24 West Lot Thanksgiving Weekend
Sat. Dec. 15 West Lot (may be points event)
We are also looking to see if any of the Sunday dates might be available.
We have not given up on a night autocross yet but did not feel Labor Day weekend was the best time. :surr:

I, for one, very much appreciate the time and effort that folks like Jerry Bumpus, Mark Bray, and many others put in to make our autocrosses so well organized and run. I also know that the dates available to us at Qualcomm are limited and competed for by many other groups. Because of the various date restrictions there will inevitably be conflicts with other events. Perhaps we should let the membership decide their choice of events. This last autocross had 110 drivers sign up. Do the tech sessions have this same response? How many of those 110 will want to see or buy a new Boxster? If it's a small minority, and the Board is representing the Club as a whole, wouldn't it be in the best interests of everyone to let them choose which event they want to go to. Those that want to AX could, and those that want to see the new Boxster could do that. This has happened before with the DE/TT in September where the choice has to be made between that event and the Coronado Vintage race. People made their choice and I believe both were well attended.

I thought we were going to change the forum so that full names were included on the forum - or at least under the member profile? What happened?

I'm not sure how Bill Behun could have been "aware of this post...yesterday" or anyone could have commented on this post to Bill Behun yesterday when it was posted today (Sunday, about an hour ago)????? :banghead: I'm also not sure why anyone should be berating anyone. This was meant as a suggestion. I also should have thanked the others that put in so much work at the autocrosses including Jennifer, Katie, Martha, Mark Bastain, and the many others. I thought the purpose of a 'Forum' was to discuss things. If that's not the case then the Powers That Be should delete anything not deemed politically correct.

Bill, yes, constructive thoughts and comments on Club operations are always welcome on the Forum. Members are encouraged to take part in the Forum and its topics. We would like to see more Forum participation from many more members.

As for event scheduling conflicts, this is often far more complicated than might appear "on the surface". Some of the decisions are difficult. And, as much as we might like to "let the membership decide" these conflicts, the financial risks to the Club make it impossible in many cases to have the membership vote with their attendance, or lack thereof. You will find that recent scheduling conflicts have encountered, and were resolved, with a number of complexities in mind. We're happy to explain these decisions to any member interested. Let me know...

Jennifer,
This policy has been implemented with new members who have joined the forum since the board decided to require "real" names for users, but members of the forum who joined prior to that decision last year have not yet been formally "asked" to add their real names to their signature files to disallow anonymous posting. It would be nice if everyone would do this voluntarily. We have looked into an automated method to add real names by using the forum's user database and the club's member database, but there is no simple solution available, as many people joined the forum in the years prior to PCA member numbers even being required.

Thanks for the shout out to us Ladies and Volunteers - it takes a village to pull off an AX!

To get back to the AX dates, if I am counting right, then we will have 7 total AXs for the year unless we make the Dec. AX a points event. We are not having any throw outs, so that means we only have to drive 4 AXs to get a trophy out of 7 events. That will be a bit easier to pull off for people, and more trophies will need to be given out.

I agree with this.
What effect will 110-120 members have on the new Boxster preview?
I know it is a valuable sponsor, and it is not likely that some one that wants a new Boxster will not buy one simply because they miss the preview.
This conflict of dates is difficult at best but the club has many members with diverse interests.
Ax dates are hard to get and we have already reduced the number and in a year or two there won't be any at all.
We should have the right to choose.

I'm sure its difficult to schedule Autox events at Qualcom given the other parties interested in this space. I do appreciate getting proposed future dates as soon as possible in order to plan my year even if they are, at first, tentative dates as long as they are identified as such. Jerry Bumpus, Mark Bray and Gordon Carter, as well as the CDI's and other volunteers, do an outstanding job for the membership in presenting a well organized, efficiently-run event. I competed in the June 9th autox at Qualcom and then(since I'm a glutton for punishment) competed in the June 10th autox at El Toro. No offence to our OCR brethren, but IMHO the Qualcom event was far superior in terms of organization. However, I'll be back to both venues as I love the competition and comradery.
Jerry.
