Adam's 993 3rd fastest at June 9th AX?

Postby kleggo on Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:07 am

Dang!
That is deeply impressive even for a CDI considering that Ruby is;
    "mostly stock"
    heavy
    running on STREET tyres
Bravo Adam.

he was running NT-01's, not street tires....if I lost to him on street tires I would have to hang it up.... :banghead: But still an amazing time. :bowdown: :surr:

Craig, thanks for the nice words! She is heavy alright at 3,160 w/ no driver. The car is just really dialed in and is a joy to drive, I pretty much just hold on and try not to hit cones as I make it around the track :rockon:

Monte, don't worry, once you get better at the rear engined car platform you'll close the gap. Until that happens you better be careful what you say...I gapped you by 3.5 seconds which I think easily covers the spread in time difference from a 100tw NT-01 to a 140 or 180tw "street" tire on a 60 second course :wink:

:banghead: Jerry, lock it up! At least you called it by the correct color...unlike Greg Phillips at the PDS who called it "Minivan Red"....

arrgh! say it isn't so! I may get better with the rear engined platform, but I don't think I am going get that much better. Just admit it Adam, you know how to drive..and I don't think which car it is matters that much..so we need to keep working on CC09 for you. But seriously it is going to be real fun to chase you and try to catch your times. Having someone to chase will only make me better right? I am looking forward to the challenge! :rockon: :beerchug: :mrgreen:

speaking of X class, they had some smoking times too. it was a small car course but still. I kinda of wish I took the Lotus just to see where I would have been. Those S2000 guys are getting fast. maybe I am bailing out of X class at just the right time...

Not to discourage Monty, but I think you're over-estimating the tire differential a little here, and under-estimating your achievement, Adam. I routinely change from a 200TW, 0-point tire to an 80-point, 30TW tire at each event, and the time differential has been 2-2.5 seconds fairly consistently on a 60-70 second course. You made a heck of a drive to put a CC08 car in the top 3 on Saturday!

as did you Mr Tweed. Quite a nice performance yourself. I am never discouraged by better drivers, only motivated. I remember 4 years ago when I started, I was in the bottom third at both PCA and BMWCCA events in the lotus, and slowly have gotten better and moved up the leaderboard. I am confident in the Lotus I would have been in the 59's for sure. I am usually around 0.5 seconds faster than WT in his miata when I drive the Elise. But driving a 911 is a entire new animal. I am looking forward to getting faster as I learn how to throw the beast around! I need to get some expert 911 pilots to ride shotgun and provide instruction. It is sooo much more sensitive to throttle steering than the lotus. Just a tiny lift and it rotates in so fast. I am discovering how neutral the Lotus handling really is, it is a hard car to upset. You really have to screw up to spin it.

One thing that was really disconcerting was how fast the NT-01's got greasy. RA-1's that I run on the Lotus just don't do that. They don't get greasy until the 9th or 10th lap of a DE session. never at an AutoX. I expected the NT-01's to be similar, but after the 3rd run in each session, they got so greasy it felt hard to control the car. I need to learn what pressures will work. I really hope that pressure changes will get rid of this...but I was pretty happy with a 1:02.13 for my first time driving it in autoX on a course that was optimized for smaller lighter cars. I had a 1:01.49 in practice....so I can't complain too much. :)

Tom, thanks for the kind words and data points on tires. My Dad was in town at this last event and you'll be glad to know that he singled your car out of all the cars as his favorite :rockon:

Monte, you're the best kind of competition because you always have a great attitude! I am far from a 911 expert but let's get some passenger seat time in each other's cars next event, nothing but good can come of that for your learning curve.

You know what they say gents, you're only as good as your last race :banghead: so we all better put up or shut up in about a month!
