Hey Drivers! There are 21 proposed rule changes that will affect AX, TT and DE events. Take a look. Here is one example. If hot weather conditions exist and you don't have a cool suit, either you won't be able to drive, if you are required to have a driving suit due to your class, or you must still wear long pants and shirt- no short sleeves or shorts in your street stock car. Is this over-reaching? Get your comments in!

Another proposal would require every DE and TT driver and instructor to have a log book for themselves and one for their car. Do we need this added expense/beauracracy? If the TT chairs support this and think it neccesary, maybe so. But otherwise? And one region with apparently really slow drivers wants to shift the cost of Zone 8 trophys to the winning drivers region...

There are 5 concours proposals and 1 rally proposal.
If you participate, these will affect you!

What do you think? (Tom can this count as my comments?)

What is considered "Hot Conditions"? Is it ambient temps? Is it high humidity? What is considered high humiditiy? Is it a combination of both? What if there is a breeze? How about a "strong breeze? What is "is"?

As you can see, requiring a cool suit is absolutely subjective to ones tolorences and a ridiculous proposal to govern or police placing undue pressure and responsibilities on the DE/TT chairs to exclude someone from a competition after they have paid their hard earned money to be there. Although having a cool suit is nice, there were many years without it and not a necessity especially since DE and TT driver's have the option of not running a session. Couple this with the fact that TT timed runs are typically 2 laps, it's not a long time to be on the track.

Mandatory Cool Suits is not necessary. This should be the driver's choice. As for a mandatory race suit for TT, DE and Club Race under any weather conditions = Absolutely, safety is the most important. In the years I've raced in 100+ F conditions, not once have I thought about a cool suit. Racing is an extreme sport. I'd say a mandatory medical check every two years, (for the ticker mostly) and being in shape is more important than a cool suit. I have witnessed two drivers which had heart attacks this year (one made it, the other didn't). Yes the conditions are more extreme in wheel-to-wheel racing than at an AX or TT event, but to race in motor-sports one should be in good health for the safety of everyone on and off the track.

As for a log book, personally I think one log book for car and driver combined is satisfactory and a great idea for Time Trial and maybe even for AX too. It's used in Club Racing organizations for tech inspection to stamp and track the car and driver history.

More rules, more expense...let's make sure nobody wants to do PCA events

Is there are problem or situation that we want to fix? Some incident that we don't want to repeat? I must have missed it.
This is the same problem our country is in. We are trying to legislate everything into a protective cocoon.
What ever happened to people being responsible for themselves.

I know, we will have the cars teched after every run session...where will it end?

I would like to suggest it be made mandatory that all members of the Rules Committee be required to do ALL corner working sessions at the Autocrosses and DE's. This would allow them to see first hand the need for the any more 'rules'. It might make for better decisions.

Clearly, some education is required regarding the rules proposal process.

Any member of the club may propose a rule change, and out of fairness to all points of view, the rules committee posts all proposals submitted in good faith. The act of publishing these proposals does not constitute an endorsement of these proposals by the rules committee. Rather, we are putting them out there for review and comment by the membership. While we try to monitor opinions on the proposals on the club's forums, the most direct and effective means of submitting feedback is by email to the rules committee. Please include which proposal (by number and title) you are commenting on, and we are primarily interested in why you feel a particular proposal does or does not have merit or flaws. Flaming is generally not considered an effective means of feedback, so please try to remain calm.

I will tell you that there are two areas some of these proposals are coming from (besides the usual points jostling): 1) the desire to grow participation, and 2) the desire to pave a path towards a (possibly) expanded club racing program (not all proposals in these areas have been posted yet). As currently written, some of these proposals may or may not be at odds with each other. The feedback process is essential to helping the club wade through all this and improve the rules and club activities. As always, we welcome and encourage the membership to submit their own proposals, even if they are counter to other proposals.

p.s. Don't worry, the rules committee primarily consists of active drivers and instructors who have extensive experience running at AX's, DE's, TT's, and Club Races (and a lot of corner working ).

This is great news!!!!

When Peter and I ran DE, we found that the KISS rule and making events fun really helped sell out events and make money for the club.
Pages and pages of rules, fees and other eye glazing stuff does not get people to participate. (especially true for newbies)

That's just my opinion (I know what they say about opinions )
