What to do in this market with a car that did 1:20.4 at WSIR

As I transition into running my POC GT4 Class car, my beloved and faithful "Killer Bee" sits in the garage thinking about its future.
This is obviously a special car that won two Championships in POC, set 6 track records and was the subject of an extensive article in Excellence Magazine..
I'm trying to figure out whether it would be best to sell the car complete as is, or sell the drivetrain separately. I have about $75K in the drivetrain alone which includes a Porsche Motorsports built tweeked 997 GT3 Cup engine putting out 397 RWHP, a Guard geared 5 spd. tranny with intercooler and GT3 Cup LSD, ECU and harness.
Any helpful thoughts appreciated.
BTW, just so I don't take any heat about the thread title, the 1:20.4 time at WSIR was run by Kevin Rousch in my car. I've posted the data sheet before. Mere mortals such as myself ran 1:22.4.

You got the most out of it and thats lot of car! :D
Its really too fast for the PCA TT, never get a clean lap. :wink:
maybe sell it to a club racer?
Would you break even at best, if you sold the motor and replaced it with something milder, then sell the car?
I'd love to have that drive train but I bought another race car for (more than a little) less than your drivetrain alone.
At any rate you did an awesome job developing and driving that 911. :rockon:

Hope you run into another crazy rich guy! I have my old yellow car as a roller for sale for a price you could just about part out and make money. No takers. Good luck on yours. My guess would be to sell the engine and tranny, but who knows these days. What are you driving now?

I think after all is said and done Mike, regardless of how I do it, I'll wind up with $.25-$.30 on the $1.00. It would feel better to see someone drive the car and get as much enjoyment out of it as I have. Maybe advertise it in Excellence?
BTW, U were looking pretty good out there at Coronado!! Nice driving.

Wow, a voice from the past! A better question is where have you been?
I'm driving a POC GT4 Class car now (a 2003 996)--very competitive Class in POC (11 lbs/hp).
Was leading the Class last Saturday at Fontana with 2 laps to go and then we get a full course yellow. Nobody can pass me so I got the win, right? Not quite!
Mr Senile decided on the checker lap to go into the pit BEFORE the checkered flag!
Realizing my mistake a little late, the car in 2nd place passed me by and got the win. I didn't protest being passed on yellow because my u-turn from the hot pit back to the track wasn't exactly legal --anyway they gave me 2nd place and I walked quietly away with my head still up a dark place.
So that's what I've been doing and driving.
Missing you better half's oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies!
What are your track plans?

Hi John:

Great to see you at Fontana, even if just briefly.
Sheez, was it ever hot!

That is such an iconic and cool car, it would be ideal to sell it intact to an enthusiast who will DRIVE it!

How often (and how much $$$) do the 997 Cup engines need servicing? That might be a factor for a potential buyer.

Maybe if you promote and advertise a lot all over the West, you could sell the package. If that doesn't work out,
I would imagine that one of the many teams running 997 Cup cars would go for the engine at least as a spare.
Maybe Loren (or similar) would buy the whole package, or trade an Air-Cooled engine + $$$ for the 997 Cup engine?

Anyhow, nice to see you doing well in GT4 now. You had a nice race at Spring Mountain too.

Are you going to Infineon?

Just doing the PCA TT's for now. I FINALLY got the silver car running well (knock on wood), or at least it was until I dropped a wheel off the track coming out of turn 9 at Willow 2 weeks ago. I sure wish the track owner would make an apron on the track there. The ground is so soft, it you do drop a wheel you high center and away you go. Did the exact same thing 7 years ago at the same spot, same results. Around 120 backwards in the infield is one hell of an E ticket ride. Anyway, not getting any younger so I will probably stick with the PCA, a lot of bang for your buck and the red group is a lot of fun. I may try and get my race license back for Fontana next year. Have to have my shoulder operated on the end of the year so I will have to see how it does.

Coronado was a blast, first race start for me in 6 years. :burnout:
With my Navy ATC background Coronado is like coming home for me. :wink:

If you still have the Bee would be fun to chase you around big willow with my Camaro on a test day this spring. 8)
