Hearing those cars running in person was quite an experience!
Watching on TV just does not convey the sound you'll hear.
EK's video does capture the off throttle sound really well.

It's nice to be able to get technical help from the youngsters... isn't it Dave?
That My-Tube and Face-Space stuff can be hard to figure out!

+1. Every motorsports fan should go to a F1 race once in their lifetime just to experience what it's like -- every sense is stimulated, but none other than the SOUND of 20+ F1 engines reving to 18,000 RPMs all at once down the front straight.

The first time I went out to an F1 race I heard loud "pops" like thunder... something that you don't get a sense of on TV. Well, it was the downshifts on these beasts before the current day double clutch systems. From then on I was looking for their gearboxes to fall out from the explosions that occurred during each downshift, truly an amazing sound!

The other thing was sitting at the end of T1 and watching these cars go from 200 MPH to about 30 mph in about 50 meters. You want to believe it's an optical illusion :surr: HDTV and surround sound can't do justice to live F1.

You're a lucky man DQ. We're hoping to go to Austin next year to check it out! :beerchug:

NOT a good start, they needed a "wave-off"
JB, you should have looked me up, I was working for the PIRELLI GT3 CUP. I could have put you to work !!

It was a really great event. Track is something else. Logistics were surprisingly bearable. We stayed in San Antonio and commuted each day. After quali on Saturday, I decided to take the new 85 MPH toll road back to SA. From track to hotel by SAT was just over an hour. Track itself is like a 'stadium course' - lots of amphitheaters and elevation changes generally provided good sight lines. Here's a couple of pics:
