Zone 8 Rule Changes

Before I even begin, I know that everyone is going to cry that I am only protesting this rule because I have an RS America…well, of course. With few exceptions, these rules proposed by the very people that they will benefit and, conversely, they are protested by those they will negatively impact.

But this proposal #6 should die on the vine. This is the most asinine proposal in the entire list (and yes, I have read them all). For the unenlightened, and from his/her proposal this includes the author, #6 seeks to eliminate all 964 variants from “K” class. This would impact: Turbo Look, Speedster, America Roadster, the one and only Carrera Cup car in our zone, and of course, the RS America.

Let us look at the flawed rationale; following is quoted from the proposed rule change:

Rationale -
…It is simply not fair to list all of these cars in one class when they vary so greatly from one another. These cars vary in weight by over 400 pounds, while others have wider wheels and tires, many with turbo brakes and increased track. There are no less than 3 separate rear spoiler options for these cars. The only fair solution is for all of these factory modified cars to take points for any additions beyond a base model 964.

These cars are already taking points for the items that are truly performance enhancing equipment. Weight? Yup. Wider wheels/tires? Yup. As for turbo brakes and increased track, how many cars are we attempting to police with this rule??? One, two? And of those, how many are trying to run in Street Stock?

The rear spoiler comment really gets my goatee. When someone can show me wind-tunnel-tested evidence that there is a significant enough performance gain from the RS tail versus the popup stock tail that would offsets the significant weight that the RS tail adds that would necessitate taking points…when that day comes…I will shave my goatee.

None of us are in K, we have taken the points for the factory modifications plus our own so are in KP or KI.

I wonder what the beef is?

I agree with David and Bob. If we remove all the variants other than plain C2, there will be no one left to race with. Martin and Bob Gagnon would end up in classes of 1 - no fun that!!

I thought he meant all cars start as c2's and take points from there? So RSA's would take points for their tail, weight and ???, but still be in the class. Seems reasonable, though the RSA would no longer be the car to have in the class at AX. Of course, I drive a 944 TS, so anything that hurts everyone else helps me

Jad is correct, it only means that non- base class cars need to take points for their modifications over what the base class car has.

Steve: the real performance enhancing issues are already be counted for points, so what is the point of this boondoggle? Is someone on a personal mission to bump Keith out of KSS?

David,
Get off your conspiracy horse! There is none.
Let me see if I can enlighten this dark mystery.

Currently RSA's take no points in KSS. Turbo look cars take no points. Any car named in KSS runs in stock form with no additional points. So a base model '90 C-2 runs against a Turbo look coupe with bigger spoilers, track, wheels and tires. Now lets go to Fontana with these two cars and I drive the Turbo look coupe and you drive the stock C-2. Both cars factory stock zero point cars.
I can hear the whinning already!!!

The TL car will be sucking the paint off your little C-2 in the oval. Not to mention the braking zones.

Same thing will happen at these tracks as well-

Big Willow - Yep
Buttonwillow - Yep
New layout at Pahrump - Yup
Streets w/ the bowl - Yup

I hope I have illustrated the differences that this proposal attempts to correct in a clear and friendly manor

TT vs Ax rules

Right now the car classification rules are the same for autocross and time trials

Aero might not matter much at Ax tracks, but light weight, wider track and better brakes still help.

Stop sand bagging Dave, your car is far from stock  300hp cheater car, you should be in KI or AR

For me, we can all move to one big K or A class.

Just messing with you Dave

Put Steve in the C2 and Dave in the widebody, light weight big brake car and the C2 is faster, therefore stock should be points and the mods are free  (remember, Steve works on my car and I have to be nice if I want it to run!)

Just drive and quit complaining, "they" are out to get 944's and watercooled cars, not 911's, so quit whinning and look at G class to see real disparity.

"G-class" Jad?
Take a look at proposal #4, and tell me if that seems a bit more fair to a former 944 n/a guy.

Oh, they have promised the change for as long as I can remember, but I have yet to see it happen. It always gets put off until next year and I have been waiting 10 years now :?

But with the new improved rules system, I think it may actually happen, so THANK YOU for all the work on finally trying to get the rules process improved.
