Laguna Seca air-cooled NA record

Automakers use Laguna Seca Recreation Area as a base for media launches and dealer and customer VIP programs. And more frequently, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca serves as a bellwether of performance, providing bragging rights to automakers who turn the quickest unofficial lap times. The fastest official lap is 1:07.722 and was set in 2000 by Helio Castroneves in CART qualifying. Official laps are only attained and validated during a sanctioned series event under race conditions.

In October 2019, Motor Trend’s Randy Pobst set the lap record for the quickest production car in a McLaren Senna with a time of 1:27.26 - making the Senna the first production car to break the 1:28.00 barrier. And just last month, Pobst set another lap record for an air-cooled, naturally aspirated car in a Guntherwerks Porsche 911 with a time of 1:30.99 - - making it just six tenths slower than Tesla’s Model S Plaid lap time of 1:30.30. :surr:

“Laguna Seca is one of America’s better known race tracks, maybe even the world, so claiming them - the lap records - carry so much more weight,” said Randy Pobst. “Guntherwerks makes incredibly quick and unique cars, so when they reached out and asked me to test their Porsche at that track, it seemed like such a natural combination.”

Yes it is slower than a Tesla S, at least for a lap or 2 :roflmao:

And costs over 4 times as much as a Tesla Model S Plaid.
Or 3.5 992 GT3s...

Wait until about this time next year when the Rimac C-2 and maybe the Tesla Roadster 2 will be out. The Senna will be destroyed.

Fortunately, Porsche seems to be learning as the Taycan is a pretty nice first attempt. Now they just need to put that into a sportscar, not a big sedan.
