Cars & Conversations rethink - now rotating to NEW LOCATIONS

Postby halfmonkey on Sun Sep 11, 2022 8:36 pm

Cars & Coffee has been at Jessie's Bake Shop for a number of years and we appreciate their hospitality. Although it was a convenient location that was almost central to all of San Diego, a suggestion was purposed and accepted by PCA SDR to rotate the location to various spots around San Diego county to highlight the beauty of our city and to also get you to drive to somewhere since it's been at Jessie's for a number of years.

With this change, we're also adding a new feature where we're highlighting a specific model or feature every month to showcase. The full information for the location and the highlight has been updated to the PCA SDR calendar. Please spread the word to your friends and family.

Please know that when you're attending these events, you're representing Porsche Club of America San Diego Region and the greater Porsche community. The locations that we select are all in our own neighborhoods with many folks walking around whether it be with kids, dogs, grand parents, friends, tourists, etc. With that being said, please enter/exit the event and community in a calm, safe, respectful, quiet, and responsible manner. That means no revving your engine. No burn outs. No loud music. No speeding. No Tokyo Drifting. Hopefully, you get the message.

We do not want to receive complaints and then jeopardize these events as they have been very well received. Please do not be the one to ruin it for the rest of us as that is how we basically ended up at Jessie's Bake Shop.

Lastly, since there is only one of me, if you witness someone doing anything that jeopardizes the event, please call them out on the spot and bring it to my attention. We're all in this together and sometimes, it takes a village.

Please know with your attendance, you're agreeing by negative consent that your voice, name, and/or likeness may be used without compensation in any and all media whether now known or hereafter, advised for eternity and you release Porsche Club of America and its partners, its successors, assigns and licenses from any liability whatsoever of any nature. If you do not agree to the foregoing, please do not attend this event.

1/30/24 Update: I will being inputting known future C&C dates so that you may plan your time accordingly. If there are gaps in the schedule, please know that is by design because we may not have everything confirmed to make that particular month's event public just yet.

Our first Cars & Coffee re-think was a success with 43 cars of which, 2 were the 356 highlight of the month. I failed to get any pictures so if anyone took any and is willing and able to share, please do so.

For the month of October, we'll be at Shelter Island, next to Bali Hai from 8am to 10am. For the month of October, we're going to be featuring Turbos models with the season turning to Fall and the air turning cooler. ...and with cooler air, what better way to utilize that cool air than to feed it into those lovely Turbos. All Porsches are welcome but we will be featuring Turbos and having them parked together for the month. This includes the Taycan "Turbos" as well since their cars say "Turbo." :D

Again, it's BYOCoffee. I've tried contacting some mobile coffee trucks and have left numerous messages but nobody has called me back so if anybody knows somebody that is willing and able to supply coffee or a coffee truck, please feel free to contact me or just have them show up.

Here is a link to the info on the PCA SDR calendar with live links to the location and suggested coffee stops around the area.

Great idea to move the event from place to place, which will involve more people and different cars. It will also showcase the club to more people around town.

Jessie's Bake Shop hosted us after we were kicked out of Clairemont. He is a Porsche owner and a long time PCA member. There was strong participation over the years at this venue. It's a mistake to move C&C away.

Hi. PCA SDR is aware and actually all of the links in the PCA SDR calendar are not working at the moment. We're hoping/planning for an individual email to go out on 10/22 and 10/29 with all of the information you'll need for this event.

In the meantime to confirm, the location is on Shelter Island next to Bali Hai from 8-10am. The model we're featuring this month are the Turbos including the Taycan "Turbo" since it says "Turbo" on the car.

Also, please note that as of now we have "secured" a mobile coffee truck called Loko Bean Cafe for those that want to purchase coffee rather than bring their own. I say "secured" in quotes because until they actually show up, it's only their word that they'll be there so hoping they come through. We ask that you please consider purchasing coffee from the mobile truck so that we can continue to have her attend these events going forward because they typically require a minimum purchase agreement but she has agreed to attend this event as a trial without the minimum purchase agreement.

FWIW, Marvelous Muffins, Better Buzz, Winchell's (24hr), and Jennings House are all open and good choices for those wondering about coffee/breakfast/etc. (I work in the area and have hit at least all of these places at least once...I'll probably be going to Marv Muffins).

October 30 - Turbos

Here is the link for the October cars and coffee at Shelter Island. The link is now working on the PCA SDR website. https://pcasdr.org/event/cars-sdr-shelter-isle-10-302022/

We have also secured a mobile coffee truck to come out on a trial basis called Loko Bean Cafe. I say trial basis because normally, they require a minimum amount of sales to make it worth their while. Luckily, the owner agreed to come out as they understood that I don't know how many cars may show up so I ask that you help support this local business. This way, we can try to secure them for future cars and coffee to help make it easier for all to enjoy some coffee and pastries in the morning.

November 27 - "Longhoods" from 1965-1973

Here is the link for the November cars and coffee. https://pcasdr.org/event/cars-sdr-shelter-isle-10-302022-2/

Thank you to everybody that came out today, October 30th, for the cars and coffee at Shelter Island. We had about 80 cars show up and Loko Bean Cafe brought out their mobile coffee truck to serve us with their delicious coffees. Easy parking, coffee, sunshine at the bay with Downtown San Diego in the background. Great way to start off your Sunday.

I thank everybody for their patience as I'm trying to refine this process as we go along whether it was trying to lock down a coffee truck last month (unsuccessfully) or find/scout new locations, or thinking of what else we can do during this cars and coffee to help make it even more enjoyable.

December 25 - No Cars & Coffee

Thank you everyone that came out today for the event at South Mission Beach. It was great to see some of the Longhoods. I had to leave early to attend the PCA San Diego Volunteer Appreciation Event so sorry if I missed anyone. When I left we counted about 50 cars so not sure if more showed up after I left. We also want to thank Loko Bean Cafe for showing up and serving coffee. Please help us make it so they can continue to attend our event by considering purchasing your morning coffee from them. They took a chance on us whereas many others wouldn't come out because they wanted a guaranteed minimum so please thank them by purchasing your morning coffee from them. This helps them to keep coming to our event.

Due to the Cars & Coffee normally scheduled for the last Sunday of every month and that being Christmas Day for December, we decided it would be best to skip December because we believe many will be taking extended weekend trips or having family stay for an extended period. We will be out of town too so unfortunately, I wouldn't be there to manage it but we will pick back up on January 29th at Mt. Soledad in the lower parking lot and we'll be featuring PTS (Paint to Sample) colors/custom colors.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays, Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Mele Kalikimaka, and a Happy New Year to all. See you in 2023!

January 29 - Paint to Sample (PTS)/custom colors

Here is the link for the January cars and coffee. https://pcasdr.org/event/cars-and-coffee-mt-soledad/

Please join us at the lower parking lot at Mt. Soledad. For the month of January, we're showcasing Paint to Sample (PTS)/custom colors. That means for your particular car and model year, the color has to be designated as a Paint to Sample option and not a regular Special Color upcharge. As an example, the 997.2 GT3 had Porsche Racing Green Metallic as a Special color upcharge but not as Paint to Sample. Porsche Racing Green Metallic is now a Paint to Sample designation so if you bring a 997.2 GT3 in Porsche Racing Green Metallic, unfortunately it wouldn't be considered a PTS car but a 992 GT3 in Porsche Racing Green Metallic would be considered PTS.

It must also be an original paint from the factory listed on the Monroney Label too. In other words, it can't be a non-OEM factory re-spray into a Paint to Sample color.

By no means am I an expert in all things Porsche so if someone is attending and knows their Porsche PTS listing/colors like the back of their hand, I will appreciate your help in helping me identify PTS cars so that they can be parked together for the showcase.

Lastly, because we're showing PTS cars and the most asked question will be what color is your car, please feel free to bring something that displays the color. As an example, maybe you've been to Werks Reunion and have one of the provided signage that lists your PTS color, please bring it. Otherwise, feel free to also just simply write it on a blank piece of paper and attach under your wiper blades.

Personally, I would love to see someone bring Mint Green and Jade Green/Lighter Green so I can compare the two colors side by side.

For the Paint to Sample highlight this Sunday, I plan to be there early to try and secure some parking spaces because I want to park the Paint to Sample cars following the colors of the rainbow for a picture. If anybody has cones and happens to be there before I arrive, please set up some cones (if you feel comfortable.)

Since space is limited and I'll try and put as many cones out as I can, please know that it will be first come, first served to be in the Paint to Sample rainbow.

See you Sunday.

Quick update for the cars and coffee tomorrow, January 29th. Unfortunately, the coffee truck espresso's machine broke and they're not going to be able to get it repaired in time for our cars and coffee tomorrow so please plan accordingly to bring your own coffee.

February 26 - Electric and Hybrid

Here is the link for the February cars and coffee. https://pcasdr.org/event/cars-and-coffee-moonlight-beach/

Considering the rainy and cold weather, we had our largest turnout so far under the new rotating format. 81 cars in total so thank you all that braved the cold, windy and rainy weather! I spoke to a number of people and they shared with me that they were questionable about coming out because of the weather but ultimately decided to so I'd like to think that if the weather wasn't a factor, we might have had more cars.

Great PTS turnout. It seems that a majority of the PTS cars were of the blue color and a handful of green variety. Surprised there weren't more to represent from the yellow spectrum, purple spectrum or colors such as Ruby Star. I did hear a couple people say they really liked the PTS theme and asked to do it again in the summer time. We will definitely do PTS again but we have to give other themes an opportunity.

Hello everybody. Just a quick update for the cars & coffee on Feb 26. Unfortunately, the mobile coffee truck will not be able to attend. With that being said, please bring your own coffee. Also, at the beach just down the foot path from the parking lot, there is a concession stand that sells coffee but I don't know what their hours are. Otherwise, you can also buy some on the way in as there's a handful of coffee shops right around the area.

Sorry for the inconvenience but unfortunately, we're at the mercy of the business and their decisions. If anybody has a mobile coffee truck contact that is willing and able to be our cars & coffee solution, please let me know or if you know someone, that knows someone, that knows someone, etc, please let me know. Securing a mobile coffee truck is proving to be much harder than I ever would have thought in my life.

Forecast is looking to be just a slight chance (about 20%) of rain but it looks to be chilly and we're right by the beach so please be sure to dress warm. Last month even with the rain, wind, and cold we had our largest ever turnout of 81 cars. Hoping for the same even with the weather.
